My 87 ford ranger 2WD failed IM because my check engine light will not come on. I took the cluster off and there isnt even a hole where the bulb for the check engine light is suppose to go. Does anybody have a clue whats wrong with this?
I can tell you for sure that all US models of the Ford Ranger came with a emission system that incorporated a MIL or check eng light, go to the dealer and have them run your VIN on the Ford on line information service, that will give you the engine Calibration of the emission system, you can then find out what emission system was used, export or US.
I can tell you from experience... I have taken the dash apart, a long tedious process.... checked the bulbs only to realize that the check engine light was never wired... there is a hole for the bulb, but no circuit on the circuit board... I have since talked to a mechanic who told me that the 87 has no check engine light. ford never wired em in. the emmissions light and parking brake light are the only lights working in my 87 ranger, besides the backlight and blinkers. hope this helps
