There are many things that can contribute to this problem. It sounds like it may be ignition related. Possibly an ignition control module or ignition coil. The check engine light coming on while driving is the key to finding the problem. The light comes on when the computer finds a problem and will then store it in its memory. Have the codes checked for what the computer has found to be at fault and with a little diagnostics, should lead you to the problem
have the check engine light checked at a parts store its usuall free. I would bet its the idle air control motor. This controls the fuel air mixture at idle
you did'nt specify what year, engine size, or model. but what you describe,is a common poblem.the engine idle control sensor may be bad.is your check engine light "on"? this may be why the lights on. but the light may not be on at all, and the idle control sensor may still be bad. it starts fine, then idles fine for awhile, until you put it into gear to drive it,then it sputters,or dies. or else you start it and then put it into drive on the clear road, then give it full throttle gas on the floor,it takes off fine and runs great, until you come to stop sign or red light, then it dies? suspect a bad idle control sensor 1st then suspect clogged fuel injectors. which can be cleaned easily by adding sea foam,or lucas fuel injector cleaner to your fuel tank. no service fees due. thank you for choosing fixya.com. we always look forward to assisting you in your needs, automotive,or just about anything you need assistance with,fixya.com can assist you with! and again, thank you for choosing fixya.com!
Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. When the engine is cold the leak is there but as the engine warms up the parts start to expand thus closing the gaps and sealing the leak. I had this problem on my personal vehicle and it turned out to be lower intake gaskets.
ok..you must have more than one car???? you don't drive the 300 atall im guessing. #1 start car drive up the road and \back to your house. #2 let it idle till problem starts. #3 once it does start with the problem keep it alive with the gas pedal. #4 once your have it safely from dying in higher rpms "rev it" like a kid would, you know like if you were gonna race some one lol. be careful not to over rev or damage engine. you should do this for five minutes no longer than that. #5 let it idle for another 5 minutes. #6 repeat every day until problem with idling decipates. it took mine 3 300e like 3 days of this. if your not going to drive the car once you get the problem out of the way. turn the car on everyday and let it idle for 5 minutes atleast and take it for a short drive once a week. they get lonelly you know lol. later on you can just turn the car on every 2 -3 days and let it idle but still take it on a short drive atleast once a week
I read this in a blog and it worked for my truck. I cleaned the throttle body and the air filter. It seems to be starving for air when you are just at idle cause it would not die when I was going down the road. Only if I was pulling into park with the rpms really low. Just pull the intake off and clean the throttle body. You will see a bunch of gunk. Clean it until it turns silver again.
