I was driving my car & was low on gas & have been for a few miles but on the way home my car just shut off. I put about 3 galloons of gas in my car and it still wouldn't start. So we hooked up the OBDII sensor & it read that it was the kam shaft sensor, throttle position sensor, & the evac vent....we replaced the parts but my car still wont start? What else might be the cause of this?

There are a number of other things that could be at fault. You say it's had a starter relay? Have you tried shorting the relay accross the 2 large terminals? This will connect the starter motor direct to the positive side of the battery. If the engine turns over then it may be a missing live feed from the ignition switch. When you turn the ignition to the start position do any of the lights on the dash go out? Like the engine management light or the charging light. If not then again it could be the feed from the ignition switch or maybe just a bad connection on the starter motor itself. Another possibility is the immobilisor isnt recognising the transponder inside your key fob. But this is rare although still a possibility, The transponder is a tiny chip that sits next to the key & when you insert your key into the ignition barrell there is a pick up coil that is wrapped around the barrell & this picks up the code that is unique to your immobilisor. If the signal is interuppted or not the same as originally programmed then the immobilisor thinks the wrong key has been inserted & it shuts down the starter,fuel & ignition circuits. If you have a spare key i would try that instead. One way of ruling out the immobilsor being at fault is to listen out for a faint buzzing noise coming from the fuel pump when you switch on the ignition. With the engine not running this should last 3 or 4 seconds. But this doesnt apply to older vehicles, only fuel injected. The last resort is to have the car plugged in & have a diagnostic check done on the managment system. But obviously as it wont start then it will have to be taken to a garage..

Hello, looking at the response from my colleagues I feel possibly they and you are looking in the wrong area.
You say it won't completely crank over? I hope you mean turn over manually by rotating the crankshaft pulley with a knuckle bar and not trying to turn over on the key?
Whenever I do a cambelt or head/gasket change to make certain I've got the cam timing correct I rotate the engine through 360 degrees to make sure! if it isn't correct the pistons will hit the valves and not Crank over completely as you put it.
So I would see if the timing mark on the Crank pulley, cam and if diesel pump align correctly.

Hello. One way to check if it is working is when you try to start the car does the needle move on you tac? If not then your crank sensor is more then likely the problem. It is located on the backside of the engine under the intake manifold. If is in about the center of the block. There will be a 10mm bolt holding the sensor in. If you decide to change it yourself (not to terrible of a job) unplug the sensor, remove the bolt and spin it back and forth slightly while pulling it out. It may be stoburn and you might have to work at it for a little bit (not a done of room) but it will come. When it's out the sensor will be shaped kind of like an L. I have changed a few of these over time and they can be a little stoburn. To install just reverse the process.

disconnecting the battery on an alternator is a no no. that was how they used to ck generators but an alternator can be damaged with no load in the circuit. Try changing out your MAF sensor. 1st sensor coming out of the air cleaner. good luck.
