How do I change the passenger side headlight bulb on my 2004 Beetle Conv.

If your Beetle is a "Turbo S", the whole front clip (bumper facia) has to come off.

For all other Beetle models:
Remove the screw cap at the rear of the front turn/marker lense.
Remove the screw
Pull the lamp assembly forward
Disconnect the electrical connector
Twist the lamp socket to remove it from the lamp assembly
Remove the bulb
Reverse procedure to install

Step 1 Open the hood of your Beetle and look between the first two fender-mounting bolts. Then, look down a few inches from there. There is a small knob, which is the release knob for the headlight-housing assembly.

Step 2 Push the release knob down and then all the way up as far as it will go.

Step 3 Push the headlight housing forward from the back of the housing.

Step 4 Unplug the headlight connector from the back of the headlight.

Step 5 Push down on the plastic tab on the back of the headlight housing and slide the black plastic cover down to reveal the headlight.

Step 6 Remove the spring clip from the back of the headlight by pulling it off with your fingers. The headlight bulb will come out of the back of the headlight housing when you do this.

Step 7 Install the new headlight bulb and replace the spring clip to secure the headlight to the housing. Installation of the removed components is the reverse of removal.

Underneath the hood there is a black lever pull up on the lever to release the headlight assembly.the headlight will slide out of the front of the vehicle,once its out youll see the metal clip that holds the bulb in place.It may take slight force to get the lever to release the assembly.

1. Remove headlight housing. A.Open Hood and pull the release lever at the back of the housing. The headlight housing slides in and out of the body in tracks. B.Pull out the headlight housing far enough to disconnect the electric connectors, then slide the housing completely out. 2. Remove the retaining clip to remove the upper (low beam) or lower (high beam) bulb from the holder from the back of the housing unit. Remove the old bulb(s). 3. Do not touch the bulb with your bare hands! Wear clean gloves or hold with a clean paper towel. Fingerprints on the bulb will cause the bulb to burn out or explode!. Insert the new bulb. 4. Replace the retaining clips and insert the housing back into the tracks and into the body. Plug the electric connectors in and insert the housing completely. 5. Reposition the release lever to the original position being careful not to break the plasic lever. 6. Check your lights for operation.

The headlight is actually a bulb inserted into a light module. You can remove the plastic light module by releasing the tension spring on the rear of the headliht housing inside your hood. Once the tension spring is released pull the plastic light module from the fender socket by gently pulling on the edges of the headlight. The module should pull out with some minor difficulty. Remove the bad bulb from the rear of the plastic bubble, and replace it with a new halogen bulb. Replace the module into the fender socket and reclip the tension spring(s). Not all that difficult of a job once you know how its accomplished.

you change the taillight bulbs through the trunk of your vehicle. also, the headlights are a constant problem with beetles (prepare to replace them often).
