2004 Maxima, front, rear running lights, dash dimmer don't work. Lamps and fuses are good. Possible cause(s)?

Seems to have cascaded from one to both tail lights. Dimmer for Dash lights doesn't dim lights. Radio station pre-set buttons do not light. In checking I found that the front running lights are not working, as are neither of the front cornering lights. Could find no fuses related to lights and am wondering if there is some digital control component (i.e., computer) that could be causing this. Headlights, fog lights, flashers and turn signals work, brake lights work. Any ideas where to look?

All lighting fuses and relays are in a plastic box under the hood close to the battery on top of the inner fender well. Do not mess with the computer, it has nothing to do with the lights. check every fuse in the box under the hood.

SOURCE: Need help identifing if I have a dimmer switch or a relay problem

You have a short somewhere in the wire harness for the tail lights that needs to be fixed first. Start by tracing the wire for the light that doesn't work and follow it back through the car until you find the short. It will probably show as a scorched section. Cut it out and splice in a new piece using connecters and heat shrink tubing. Then wrap the joints with electrical tape. Once that is repaired then check the fuse and replace if necessary. After that the most obvious part that may need to be replaced would be the dimmer switch. Hope this helps.

Dash lights not working, exterior lights inoperable too, 2008 hyundai santa fe

ELECTRICS 101 (do you live in the RuST belt? ) wiki it.
first tell all electrics that work and do not (brief), and if engine runs and drives ok.???

all lamps inside and outside matter.
BLINKERS (TURNS) DEAD REAR. well that is bad wring on the rear.
(left rear and left front run off same wire) same is true

what did brake lamps do? BOTH DEAD AND THE 3LAMP TOO usa?
3 dead blinkers.
try a real ASE shop with tech and ASE badge on the sleeve.
the do now what to do,
all 10 + outside parking lamps work? 4 corners and sides.?
the cluster back ground lamps are on a dimmer it must be turned to high to see them. did kids play with dads car.? oops.
this year car like most that year, up have thing called BCM
the body brain I CALL, AND RUNS ALL LAMPS .
I WILL NOw RTM READ THE SERVICE MANUAL FOR YOU.
SO THE 4 SHOPS LOST THERE SCAN TOOL, that? ?????????
all fuses good, and scans show not one DTC error, i bet not.

let me begin at TURNS dead rear.(which one bad front NOT TOLD)
wow.
no hacked up added trailer hitch jack on car right, we look for that
after all fuses tested good (as in ALL)
do hazards work on all 4 corners, now that is so important on any car as huge clue #1
the T/sig fuse (ip box) is not blow due to front lamp 1 does flash.
the HAZARD fuse must be good or all 4 corners are dead.
now the turns. , the turn switch sends left to front and rear on 1 wire.
same with right.

see how front and rear use the same wire feed
so if rear fails you have bad (wrong lamps) or wiring bad.
for sure.
i bet hazards fail the same way. for the same reasons.

santafe-undefined-undefined-0.jpg

dash illuminations side is cluster fuse blown, in IP fuse box. dash
same box ROOM LP fuse
the dash brain, MICOM goes dead too, lacking both fuses good.

I have 2001 Ford escape xls, instrument cluster and interior lights stopped working as well as taillights

tell good and bad, not just bad things.!
car starts and runs and drives ok? day time?
dash dimmer turned down, kids played with dads car?
well tail lamps dead (really are up to 10 or more parking lamps dead, is blow fuse or BCM failures.
why not scan the PCM see DTC errors first. save tons of work , if DTCs are there.
cars have 2 or more fuse boxes. cab and bay(engine)
did you check them all?
if car drives, I will say why parks fails. front and rear and sides of cars. are park lamps as are license plate lamps.
the BCM body brain on this car is SJB smart junction box.
SJB Fuse F2 and F3 good
and the HL switch not bad, and park switch there good
the SJB has CPU brain and a park relay
if the CPU sees park turned on it closes the park relay in SJB
there 8 park lamps.all 8 lamps run off fuse F3
so if one lamp works, then F3 is good if all 8 are dead F3 is blown
or the relay is bad.

these words assumes car runs. (engine runs)
and the battery is not dead
nor battery at 10vdc or less.
I check all that and all is covered in the service manual I just read.
for you.

Entire dashboard lights won't work

buy it used like this or just failed now 30 years later? called out of the blue failed?
name all lamps in the dash that fail there are many
we can not guess them all.
the dash has piles of cluster lamps. (errors) and has background lamps that are DIMMER controlled.
dashboards have many lamps even the shift lever does.

  1. car starts and riuns good
  2. HL work key on and off, headlamps
  3. park ing lamps work
  4. dome lamp work (door opens domes glow)
  5. cluster error lamps work or not.
  6. cluster back ground dimmers work or not.
  7. AC panel dead. lamps yes.
  8. the car has 2 or more fuse boxs, you do know that riight
  9. all facts matter above to fast accurate diagnosis. (I give up)
  10. this car had option AUTO lamps , got that?
F13 ,IP box is fuse that can blow. is park feed (HL) to dash
and via the DIMMER. and also glows Illumination on AC panel
THE AC active lamp is a whole other matter.
if the DIMMER works on high but not below that is a BAD dimmer control, for sure)

IP fuse F6 is for AutO Lamps OPTED CARS.

THIS MAKES NO SENSE
I the dimmer switch turn the interior light on still so I'm assuming it's still good
IF DIMMER FAILS FAILS ALL MODES THE FUSE IS BLOWN
IF DIMMER FAILS ONLY OFF HIGH THE DIMMER ITSELF IS BAD.
IT HAS ONLY 2 PINS ON IT.
HOT WITH PARK OR HL ON.
THIS PATH IS DASH AND CLUSTER ILLUMINATION FEED
OR BACKGROUND LAMPS, ONLY, FOR NIGHT DRIVING.

What would cause my dash lights on my 88 chevy truck to go off when i turn on my headlights?

wow a 1988 car that runs, love to see that.
no truck model told just Truck C1500? pickup or?
I will answer for C1500 only not all trucks 1998 ever.
not sure me what dash lights mean
so the cluster back ground lamps are dead , that,
those are created from PARK (tails) lamps and there is dimmer knob on all cars for dash backbround lamps.
not talking warning lamps at all me.
forgot about the dimmer? yes, then turn it up.
if cluster is dead(all amps) the fuse is BLOWN
now the fuse is called instrument light fuse
the headlamps switch on most cars have dimmer knob to dim dash lamps,
2 fuses, GAUGE and Intrument.

1996 Grand Cherokee Laredo. Why does it have no running lights and instruments lights?

parks dead outside and inside dimmer side both dead.
fuses are first. lacking the manual we check them all.
I must assume front and rear parks and side parks are all dead.
and will answer only for that fact
the front feed makes dash lamps work too.
rear end , optional has lamp outage module to fail ,. only rear.

I have the shop manual for all GC .
USA?
XJ jeep
park wiring all (aka , tail lamps or running lamps but are the same feed)
feed means power feed.
chapter 8w is wiring all
fuse box PDC fuse 13 good.
pdc fuse 17 good
pdc relay park good. BCM runs this relay so the park switch to it must be good.
only in auto lamps
manual lamps turned on BCM is not in that path and Fuse 17 feed lamps direct via the HL switch ON.

if fronts/and front sides are dead, Fuse 17 blew.
if not the HL switch is bad.
I won't say, all wires to above can fail, that be obvious.

My 2005 matrix keeps blowing 15amp rear running light fuse every time light get turned on all other lights work fine.whats causing this?

fuses blow because of dead shorts or excess current draw
to blow a 15 amp fuse indicates a dead short
by disconnecting the rear lights , the problem is in something else you have replaced
could be a problem in the head light wiring

Brake lights don't work when headlights are on. When brake is pressed turn signals go fast and when brake is pressed when headlights are on they are so dim you can't see them plus turn signals...

{: ) Looks like your lightings got haywired. Have you had vehicle repairs recently? Anyway, it seems that you have poor grounding connections for the affected lightings. Some circuits share common ground, and ground terminals are strategically distributed on the vehicle. If these grounds don't have good contact with the body, chassis, or engine ground, circuit functions are badly affected. Thats why these ground points should be inspected and kept clean and tight, maintain that good wire and terminal contacts.
We can start with G100 located at the Left Front of the Engine Compartment on the left front body mount. See diagram below:

wyet_helps_24.gif Check out also G401 which is located in the chassis harness, mounted to the left rear Body mount. This ground point is shared by the rear lamps like the brakes, reverse, and rear signal lamps.
If possible check also other ground points that you may visually come across while on your search. Be sure also that fuses are all inspected good.
I hope we get lucky in finding and fixing a certain lamp function, if not all. Goodluck.
