I had a full load of cattle on I-64 on North Mountain. Had in cruise but was not holding back. Heard a noise I thought was tire noise. Stopped was in gear but would not move. Put in low range engaged, moved 200yds put back in high range. Had to do 2x before engaged. continued to stock market. Brought back 6,000 load , going downhill same thing. after stopping and starting 20 times I noticed when I kept foot on brake would stay in gear. After made it off mtn worked fine until going downhill, kept foot on brake and stayed engaged. made it home. Haven't started anything hope you can tell me where to start. Thanks

On the tranny there are input and output speed senors,it sounds like your input speed sensor went bad, this was a very common problem for those cars, and not very expensive to fix. The car is stuck in what they call limp mode.
SOURCE: transmission will not engage and slips when it does engage
auto trans operates on fluid pressure. if the trans has never been serviced, more than likely the filter is plugged, and or the fluid is bad. no doubht its burned and will smell and look like it. get it towed to a shop and have the fliud and filter changed first, then check the band adjustment.recommend a trans shop do it and not jiffylube.
SOURCE: WHEN YOU PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE IT WILL NOT GO ANYWHERE
Its the electronic shift control located just under the battery ontop the transmission replace or repair will solve the issue
it'll go into drive but once it reaches 1500 rpm it'll drop into neutral as a safety because at this rpm it is being told to shift gear and when it fails to do so it safely goes into neutral
it will go into reverse just fine and park and you can run all the low drive gears until you reach 1500 rpm then it'll cut it off
i pulled mine out re soldered bad components on the board to fix it but im an electronics engineer it may be easier for you to just replace it
