I would like to change the oil in my 2007 Rav4. The owners manual provides no procedure to properly accomplish this. I have change oil in enough vehicles and machines to know that it is not always as simple as taking the plug out, screwing off the filter, screwing on the new, putting the plug back in and adding the oil.
Where to I find a procedure or is it just that simple?
I just did my 2007 RAV4 4WD 4 cylinder. It's that simple.
The oil plug is pretty easy to get to, the filter is a few inches higher and a few inches to the front and a few inches toward the center of the car and must be accessed from underneath the car. Note that there is not much room to get to the filter and that it is much easier to use one of the socket type filter wrenches (the one that you use a 3/8 inch ratchet for. However, if the filter is on really tight, then you'll have to use a more traditional filter wrench, removing some of the screws on the front plastic skid sheet will give you a little more room to work.
The four cylinder takes about 4.2 quarts of oil, check the manual for the appropriate type.
Finish by resetting the "Maintenance Required" light with ODO stick trick that has been documented by others. Note that my RAV4 needed the "Trip A" varient.

Your 2007 RAV4 requires 4.5 quarts SAE 5w20 with filter change. I use Pennzoil and highly recommend it but all major brands are good. Use a quality filter such as Wix, Purolator, or Bosch. Change your oil/filter every 5,000 miles if using conventional oil and every 7,000 miles if using synthetic if you drive normally.
I see you have a four cylinder since it only holds 4.5 quarts.
2006 manual confirms your oil consumption is within allowances. Just check oil every time you buy gas like the manual reccomends. Do not over rev engine or accelerate from stops at max capacity of car as these can increase oil consumption.
In the owners manual, you will find reset procedures.
I found this for ya, hope it helps!

Oil Change Reset A press of the OIL CHANGE RESET switch will allow you to reset the oil life feature to 100% (or your Personalized Oil Reset Percentage). After you have the oil changed, you must execute the following procedure. Press the OIL CHANGE RESET switch and hold for five seconds as the M/C counts down for five seconds. After a successful reset the Message Center will display “OIL LIFE RESET TO 100%.” If you have established a Personalized Oil Reset Percentage, the display will show that percentage instead of 100%. To ensure accurate oil life indicators, perform this reset procedure only after an oil change. Your Personalized Oil Reset Percentage allows you to establish a smaller oil change interval than the manufacturer’s recommended interval. To establish your Personalized Oil Reset Percentage perform the following procedure: 1. Press and hold the OIL CHANGE RESET switch and press the RESET switch while the display is still counting down the 5 seconds to reset. The display will change to “START OIL LIFE AT XXX%.” 2. Press the OIL CHANGE RESET switch until the displayed percentage is the Personalized Oil Reset Percentage that you desire. Your choices are 100%, 90%, 80%, 70%, 60%, 50%, 40% and 30%.
I just did this procedure 5 mins ago on my 2007 RAV....some procedures state to do it from the ODO position but that will not work....use the procedure below.
