Car key will not disable security alarm. Alarm continues to go off until ignition key is turned on. Once ignition key is removed alarm continues going off.
Thanks for the response, as it turns out I had a couple blown fuses. Once I swapped out the fuses I was able to use the fob to turn off the alarm system. Car had not been used for several weeks and it needed a jump start. As the battery in the Passat acquired charge and before the Passat engine would start an alarm went off near the rear of the vehicle. When the battery gained enough charge the engine was started but the alarm is still going off. Tried removing the key and putting the key in the drivers side door and turning it to disable the alarm. Tried putting the key in the rear gate to disable the alarm. The engine is off and no keys are in the car and the alarm continues to sound. At this point I think the alarm will continue to go off until the battery is dead. Can anyone tell me how to turn off the alarm. Going to the store now to pick up batters of the remote to see if this helps.Car had not been used for several weeks and it needed a jump start. If this is a factory alarm try using the the key in the door lock and turning the door lock manually. I have seen this issue in chrysler models as well. If this does not work try replacing the batteries in the key fob as this will cause falfunctions as well.

You really need to read the owner's manual to ensure you know exactly how the security system operates and what to do if it doesn't.
If the car's brain thought the car was being stolen it would have armed the immobiliser. It might be possible for the owner to reset the security system or it might need the attention of the dealer.
Do you have an alarm system? Try activating then inactivating the alarm system. Sometimes the alarm system will disable your ignition. You can also try using the key to unlock the driver door to deactivate. Some cars deactivate different ways once the alarm system disables the ignition.
1
Press the "Unlock" key on your key fob to deactivate the alarm and unlock the car doors. If you've lost your key fob, unlocking the driver's side door with the key automatically deactivates the PT Cruiser's alarm.
2
Look for the black alarm box underneath the dashboard, on the driver's side of the car. Locate the override button on the box -- either a black or red button, depending on the year of the PT Cruiser -- but don't press it yet.
3
Put the key in the ignition and turn the key so that the battery is on, but the engine doesn't start. Quickly push and hold in the override button until you hear the alarm sound once, indicating the alarm is disabled.
1
Turn the ignition key counter clockwise in the driver's side door to unlock the car. This deactivates the alarm long enough for you to gain access to the vehicle. Then, place the key in the ignition and turn the key until it clicks once. This starts the car's battery, but doesn't ignite the engine. The LED light on the dashboard should stop blinking, indicating the alarm is temporarily disabled.
2
Locate the box for the alarm under the dashboard on the driver's side of the car. Then, look for the override button on the box. Typically, the small button is either red or black. With the ignition key in the "on" position, press the override button and hold it in until the alarm chirps once. This disables the alarm until you manually reactivate it.
3
To reactivate the alarm, turn the key to the "on" position and press the override button once. The alarm chirps twice, indicating the alarm is active.
Insert the key in the ignition. Turn the key quickly from the "Run" position to the "Off" position five times. Turn the key to the "Start" position and start the car. This will disable the alarm and allow you to start the car again. Read more: http://www.ehow.com/how_7440586_disable-factory-toyota-alarm.html#ixzz2cKir9i5LWorked for me.
The only way to disarm these alarms is with the factory remote or turning on the ignition. To turn off the factory alarm.
Ok, do you have the remotes? If so, let's ID the system. Go to www.KEYLESSRIDE.com & use th fcc #s on the back of it.
If not try this:
Programming Factory Security on GM Cars and Trucks Instructions for programming the GM factory security systems that do NOT disarm from the driver's door key cylinder. This programming is for the cars and trucks listed below.
Step #2 Remove the radio fuse only (not the fuse that says acc/radio).
Step #3 Turn the key to the accessory position. When you do this you will get two chirps from the door buzzer. Should you hear only one chirp, your vehicle does not have factory security and these instructions do not apply. You need to hear two chirps.
Step #4 Press the unlock switch on the door. This will give 1-4 chirps depending on the program step. Continue pressing the unlock switch until you get to the desired chirp setting. 1 Chirp - Security off 2 Chirps - Remote Only 3 Chirps - Factory Setting 4 Chirps - Passive Arming
