Check gauges light is on and battery is overcharging

About 30 second after starting my 1999 Jeep Wrangler, the check gauges light comes on and my battery gauge maxs out. It has been tested and it is overcharging. I replaced the alternator, the battery and the serpentine belt. That made no difference. I took it to a private mechanic who tested all the grounds, etc. for me, and they were fine. He could find no other explanation for the problem other than possibly replacing the computer, which would be quite expensive. Is there any way to be sure it is the computer before I spend that kind of money, or are there any other suggestions as to what the problem could be? Thank you. dodge ram 1500 bj2000, het zelfde probleem. al geruime tijd rijdend met lichten aan ging plotseling men voltmeter naar 18v. ben gestopt en heb men alternator even afgekoppelt waar men motor stil viel. na terug aan te sluiten en starten , werkte alles terug normaal. hopelijk heeft dit geen schadelijke gevolgen nagelaten. nu geruime tijd later, werkt alles nog prima.

The altinator is the only thing that can cause this battory cant put out that kind of voltage the altinator has a built in part on most called a regulator that drops it down some have an external regulater even the computer cant make it produce that kind of voltage the most likely problem would be alt or wiring to the alt can get bad ones from time to time

Sounds like voltage regulator in the alternator, have auto-zone do a charging check, may need new alternator.

My 2002 jeep wrangler check gauges light came onand the battery gauge is below the left dot on the gauge. does that mean i have to replace the battery?

With the jeep running put a volt meter on the battery and it should be reading above 13 volts if not replace the altinator it isn't charging. You can check the fuse for the altinator first if not charging but most likely the altinator is bad.

If there is no lights on the dashboard and no sound etc..the first thing you need to check is your battery..It may be a fuse as well somewhere...

1999 Jeep Wrangler Dashboard

A poor connection at the self docking connections of the cluster. Remove the trim across the top of the intrument panel. Remove the screws at the top of the cluster trim and remove the trim. Remove the cluster screws and cluster. Apply dielectric grease to the self docking connectors of the cluster and reinstall. This should take care of it.

1999 wrangler jeep not always starting

The reason you can't pull codes is that you have the "later" OBD system which can only be accessed with a scan tool.

Removed aftermarket radio from 1999 Wrangler, no gauges work now

first, you have to tape any open wires with electrical tape, so they DON"T short anything out again. second, check your gauge fuse.

Check gauges light is on and battery is overcharging

You might want to call the dealer.
I think there was a service bulletin to replace the connectors in the back of the instrument cluster
