Abs and traction control off lights on after new tires installed on buick lesabre 2003

Two days ago I had 4 new tires installed. Today, in snow traction control was activated. After about 20 miles ABS light came on. After about 5 miles Traction Control Off light also came on. After engine is turned off, and on again, the lights stay off for about five 3 miles. Could new tires cause the problem? Best Regards, M

If you have a code reader available, reset trouble codes,if that doesn't work you probably need to have it checked out.they may have dis lodged a sensor when they changed the tires.unless you radically changed tire size it shouldn't be the tires

SOURCE: abs & traction light on 1997 buick lesabre

This is a fairly common problem, Gm has actually issued a service bulletin regarding this repair. The problem probably originates from one of your wheel speed sensors that is mounted inside one of your front wheel bearings. To be sure, you need to have the car scanned to find out which one and then you have to replace the whole bearing assembly because the sensor is integral to the bearing. The bearing is not hard to do but you will need some professional tools if you want to do it yourself. At a shop it should cost between 3 and 400 dollars complete.

Traction system light and abs light

Traction control systems measure wheel speed differences by various methods to determine if one wheel is rotating faster than the other. A heavier buildup of ice/snow could be affecting wheel rotation speed causing the TCS to engage. ABS works by sensing slippage at the wheels during braking, and continually adjusting braking pressure to ensure maximum contact between the tires and the road. Suggest clearing out the wheel wells now and periodically throughout the winter. Also remove ice/snow build up between the wheel and the brake pads/rotor.

Transmission Traction "Off" light stays lit with Traction button

The traction control system is controlled through the Anti-lock brake system. The way it works is if one of your wheels starts spinning the ABS applys the brake to that wheel to transfer power to the oppsite wheel that is getting traction. If your ABS is bad then your Traction control won't work. To check it I would find a parking lot on a wet day. In an open space mash in the gas. if you hear the ABS system kick in and you don't squall the tires then your good. My guess is you won't. What I would be worried about is will my ABS work. When checking the traction control is a good time to check the ABS. Acclerate to around 15 mph, then mash the brake as your live depended on it. If you hear a motor run and feel a vibration or grind in the brake peddal, then it works.
