I was applying the parking break and the lumbar support seemed to give way, i heard a ratcheting kind of noise and now the lumbar has no support. It feels like the support bar is moving but not far enough forward to give the needed support. I also would love if someone knew how to take the seat apart could explain how to get to the lumbar system. THANKS

lumbar on the driver seat
Shawn, Its cable driven plastic plate. It can possibly be repaired once you disassemble it and can see it, if not repairable you can replace the lumbar. Check the attached links, forums with instruction and guides, Good luck

Sounds like a gear or sprocket is broken on the lumbar. The pump is still working but sounds like the unit needs to be removed and inspected. I will see if I can find a diagram of the unit.
If you are parked on any kind of hill or slope, more than likely you have what is sometimes called "park lock." The only real way to do this is have someone in the drivers seat and one or two people rocking the vehicle. Do not apply the brake until you are able to move the vehicle into neutral. Once in neutral, apply the brake and start your vehicle.
For the years around 2001 with those seats (00-03 I believe) they have a plastic lumbar adjuster in the back of the seat. I can't seem to find anyone who sells it even the dealer. All I could suggest is try and get a crappy used seat (perferably a passenger seat because they are used less) and swap it out or just get another drivers seat if you don't want to hassle with it. It's not that easy to change. I've tried to repair mine a few times. It kept failing. I'm going to try it again and this time move the stress point to a different location so this hopefully won't happen again.
wire harness under the drivers floor gets wet and after time he splice for power to the seat starts to corrode and the splice breaks it is the Orange wire if you fix splice the seats should work
I wonder if you dont have a bad switch. I had a similar problem on my car except that it was the heated seats that would not engage... the power seat buttons all worked just fine. I changed the switch and it fixed the problem...
