Had working 4wheel drive bout a week ago and when i went to use it today it wouldnt engage, the light would come on saying that it was in 4lo but only my back tires would turn?? Dont know where to start guessing the vacuum hose got a hole melted in it from sitting on the exhaust manifold.

Most common problem is the vacuum diaphragm that is so inconviently mounted UNDER the battery tray.The cable that locks in the front diff is attached to it and vacuum pulls it in/out.

pull atc 25 amp fuse in underhood fuse center and 10 amp 4wd fuse inside cars fuse box,your problem is in control box behind kick panel on pass. side ,corrosion build up,

If there is no switch present then it is full time 4X4, it does not disengage, good for travel bad for fuel mileage.

Sounds like the chain in the transfer case has broke or the linkage is out of adjustment
