The water pump is driven by the timing belt. Do you have to replace it? No. Is it smart to do so as long as your already paying for most of the labor to replace the timing belt? Yes.
Worst case scenario is you don't relace it and then 6 months later it starts leaking or the bearings go bad and you will have to spend the money to pull the timing belt agiain to replace the pump.

So I don't have to replace it. That's alright. It saves me about $400 dollars to just do the timing belt. Apparently that $30-$40 water pump cost $400 to put in. I think I will check out some other shops. Thanks!!!
They're charging you an extra $400 dollars to replace the pump on top of the labor they are charging you to pull the timing belt?

Only if the water pump is faulty, ie losing water (leaking), worn pump bearing etc.
