The water pump is driven by the timing belt. Do you have to replace it? No. Is it smart to do so as long as your already paying for most of the labor to replace the timing belt? Yes. Worst case scenario is you don't relace it and then 6 months later it starts leaking or the bearings go bad and you will have to spend the money to pull the timing belt agiain to replace the pump. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

So I don't have to replace it. That's alright. It saves me about $400 dollars to just do the timing belt. Apparently that $30-$40 water pump cost $400 to put in. I think I will check out some other shops. Thanks!!!

They're charging you an extra $400 dollars to replace the pump on top of the labor they are charging you to pull the timing belt?

Only if the water pump is faulty, ie losing water (leaking), worn pump bearing etc.

Timming belt broke from water pump broke while driving car put new water pump on n timming belt but car doesnt start right plus shakes doesnt sound right 2001 neon dodge

Sounds like timing belt not on correctly. Check timing marks are aligned correctly when installing timing belt. This vehicle should have 2-3 marks to be aligned when installing belt.marks should be on cam gear/ crankshaft gear and intermediate shaft if engine is equipped with it.

What are the steps to change a water pump on a 2001 dodge neon?

disconnect cables from battery, drain radiator, Remove the Timing belt cover, timing belt, timing belt tensioner and if needed the timing belt rear cover, remove the bolts that hold the pump in place using a criss-cross pattern. Install the new pump making sure the o-ring seal is properly installed and replace all the other parts. If you need step by step instructions on how to do all these task I recommend the Haynes Repair Manual on your vehicle Manual 30036.

Where is the water pump located. 1998 dodge neon

The water pump is driven by the timing belt. If its leaking replace it NOW. If the pump locks up, the timing belt will break and your valves will bent. and then the car will not be worth fixing. Replace the pump, belt and the tensioner. Dodge may have a redesigned tensioner and cover, buy all parts from the dealer.

Where is the water pump on plymouth neon engine.

Hello mark_mack...The Neons water pump is an internal part which is powered by the timing belt. For installation all the accessories, belts, timing cover and motor mount has to be removed. Then the serpentine belt, the lower crank pulley has to be removed. The water pump is behind it and can be replaced in five minutes...just takes awhile to get to it. I would not recommennd doing this job without the knowledge and proper tools.
Note: this would be a good time to replace the timing belt as well, since you already have it removed.
Good luck..i hope this helps..please rate me a fixya.
