Ball & socket shift linkage

My 1993 ford explorer has a ball & socket type of linkage located by the firewall and it constantly jumps out from wear. When this happens, the shifter becomes inoperable. I need to know what the exact name is for this part so I can call & buy one to replace it. Can anyone please tell me the exact name for this part?
Thanks bob

I have a problem on the Nissan Navara 2006 model with the manual gearbox. I changed the Clutch Plate and gear 5 started popping out in motion. Please assist with the solutions.

RWD or 4wd, ?
where does the gear swift fit and how.//
Gen2 pickup truck D40 model?
the 5 speed or 6 speed box? both are sold then., M/T

in 5th gear, and foot off the clutch pedal, car in motion fast.
box jumps to neutral all by itself causes:
1: bad shifter linkages. loose or damaged parts here.(hope)
2: inside box , shifting forks damaged or huge wear. (all bad news)
3: shift fork to rail detente balls bad or spring bad to ball.
4; wrecked 5th gear syncro ring. (cheap easy fix for a gear head.(me)
5: -5th gear syncro dogs on the gear wrecked, wrong and bad.
6: bearings in the main shaft are worn and causes 5th gear to jog wildly. and fail and jump out of gear to neutral.

to prove is it linkages or the box bad.?? is goal #1
is not easy that fast, ? danger be careful.

but put rear axle on jack stands and drive it.
even shifting it by hand at the box.
how to do that is not easy and no car named that is sold USA
my 4wd car RWD , i can shift the box with all covers pulled on top of my box seen here
ive done this
http://www.fixkick.com/tranny/shifting/cheating1.jpg

the car and body and linkage are not all the same.
and what is there , I see with my eyes and now what to do
cables or not or linkage or not or lever direct shift as photo above is.
Ive not one idea what linkage you have.
but if you can shift the box, with linkage pulled that is a test.
if not replace the linkages that is loose, bent, cracked or worn or damaged in any way. replace it cheap
no box fix is cheap on labor side.

my guess at clutch change out you did not do linkage adjustments in the service manual or put it back wrong or bolts loose ?

good cluck that is all I have lacking photos of shifter and linkage below it.

HOW DOES THE GEAR SHIFTER ON A 1980 LANCIA BETA 2DOOR COUPE ZAGATA CONNECT TO THE CLUTCH

The gear shifter doesn't connect to the clutch, the clutch pedal and clutch release fork connect to the clutch. The shift linkage connects to the transmission through a 3 part lever with 2 adjustment points.

I have an 1993 Ford f250 supercab..auto tranny. My gearshifter has always been a little loose but the other day I guess it snapped somewhere underneath the dash up in the steering column. My gearshifter...

Under your dash attatched to the steering column is your shift tube, at the end is a ball that your linkage goes too, that part has 2 T25 torx screws holding it to the shift tube, those screws are notorious for comming loose

How to change front wiper motor on 1993 ford explorer

Hi there,
  • Turn the ignition on, and turn the front windshield wipers on. When the wipers are facing straight up on the window, turn the ignition off so they remain in that position.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable with an adjustable wrench. Remove the passenger side wiper blade assembly, by removing the pivot nut at the bottom with an adjustable wrench. Remove the wiper linkage access cover, and use a screwdriver to remove the wiper motor clip. Remove the wiper linkage from the wiper motor.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector on the wiper motor. Remove the bolts and nuts, securing the wiper motor with a socket wrench. Remove the wiper motor from the vehicle. Install the new wiper motor, and tighten mounting bolts and nuts with a socket wrench. Connect the electrical harness to the new wiper motor. Connect the wiper linkage, and insert the linkage clip. Install the wiper blade assembly, and tighten the nut with an adjustable wrench.
  • Connect the negative battery cable securely, using an adjustable wrench.
Hope this helps...

No the saturn limkage problem can not go into any gear and can not be driven in reverse, the gear shift is completely loose

there is a ball socket attatchment for the linkage on the side of the transmission. The linkage breaks the clip and falls off the ball attatchment point. Common to saturn stick shifts of the era. You can order the whole linkage assembly with the clip but its expensive(300ish if I remember right), or you can try and get them to sell you JUST the clip (If your ball and socket are intact) if they package it seperately AND your socket and/or ball didnt break. Assuming they are intact, TEMPORARILY you could use multiple tie wraps or steel wire to tie/hold the ball and socket together but it would likely not last long and have the risk of breaking while driving. Wouldnt do damage if it broke while driving, but you will lose the ability to shift when it goes...and will be restricted to coasting down with clutch depressed or driving in whatever gear you were last in till you can reach a service location.

1993 ford f-150 shifter busted

there are several possible ways this can happen, 1 on the transmission there is a cable that comes from the column, check to see that it is attached to the shift selector . This is located under your brake foot under the truck.
Another, on the column, towards the back of it under the dash, this same cable has a plastic cup that snaps on to a metal ball , it might have broke or just popped off.

1993 vw jetta

U mean on the shifter irself inside the car?? If so, u just unscrew it, but won't solve ur problem at all.

Instead replace the 2 plastic link kits located on top of the tranny. They are about 3 inches long and they can be popped off with a little prying. Costs about 30 bucks for the pair, even less.

Also for the shifter itself it can be adjusted by the dealer but must be done on a lift. Go to the dealer if the 2 linkages are replaced and still doesn't shift properly.
