Idle prolem could be a dirty throttle body or sticky air idle control motor.
If the Jeep is a 6 cly. the adjustment for the belt is the power steering pump.
If the Jeep is an 8 cyl. the tensioner is on the pass. side of car.

I have a 99' Grand Jeep Cheerokee Laredo 8 cyliner all time 4 wheel drive that has an idle problem. The idle gets up to 2k rpm in park, neutral or drive. It also idles as low as 200 rpm to nearly dying when I come to a stop. Ive had the IAC motor replaced twice with factory parts with 0 improvement. Ive been told the computer module needed to "accept" the new part in order for the idling to adjust appropriately. And that by driving the vehicle and / or manually adjusting the module, would fix it which niether has worked.
The problem seems to be increasing and not getting better. Any advice.
Note: The problem seems to happen at long distance trips over 65 miles hour at 20 minutes or longer.
Problem: Extreme High or Low idling.

1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo just stops while driving

Does it stall at idle or going down the highway? Does it restart right away? How long since a tune-up? Are there any applicable trouble codes? Check the cam and crank sensor. Could be other issues?

Sometimes the oil drive housing can cause a sync problem between the crank and cam sensors?

Check to make sure your intake system does not have any leaks in it that is allowing extra air to come in past the MAF sensor.

Please help my 1999 jeep grand cherokee has been dying out. As soon as I start to slow down or I'm at a red light it wants to die out. When I give it gas its fine but once again when I begin to slow...

sounds like a fuel problem. when was fuel filter changed last! if filter is ok, remove and clean the idle air control it may be sticking. this is what controls idleing, on todays cars. ( IAC ). good-day ! there is another thing you can do. clean out around throttle plate of throttle body and make sure aircleaner is ok. this should help!!

My 1999 jeep will stop running while driving it

Hi, i have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee, 4.0 litre, had the same problem, quits running out of the blue, driving down the road, or sitting idling. starts right back up or takes some cranking to get it running. found out that the crankshaft position sensor was going bad, cost 40$ for the part, but had to have mechinac replace it due to it's location, hard to get at. jeep runs great now.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee stalls when brakes are applied

My 2000 Grand Cherokee had the same problem, without all the sputtering, it would just die approaching a stop. We could only keep it running by slightly pushing down on the gas petal when coming to a stop. I replaced the Throttle Position Sensor, but that didn't change anything. A new mechanic I found replaced the Idle Air Control Valve, and we've had no problems in a week.
