I have a 2000 mercury sable. The other night, we were driving, and we heard a loud snapping noise, like a belt broke. At the point, the car just stopped, but the engine was still running. I can turn the car on, but it makes a whining noise from the engine or transmission, and wont go into gear. Does this sound like a busted trans belt, or can it be fixed with lucas additive or another quick fix?
Thanks
Judge Burns
SOURCE: how to install trans cooler
actually just installed in fron of the radiator it should come with some kind if zip ties or something to atached to radiator the look for the transmission cooling lines most of time they are like 5/16 to 3/8 of an inch thick and they are atached on the side of radiator, then get transmission cooling roober line and continue the lines to the cooler and also get 4 hose clamps to install on the hoses ends

Check your vacuum hoses (They are 3/8" Rubber hosing on the right side of the engine, you will need to remove the air intake piping (Also remove the throttle body to make accessing them easier) This is the #1 cause of high idling in the 3.0 OHV and 3.0 DOHC sable engines.

Yes, the harmonic balancer is broken. It is what the crank pulley is bolted to.
