Overheating My '99 Alero started overheating. Checked thermostat...it's good. Oil is very light brown and white-ish. Could this be a cracked block?

2000 Oldsmobile Alero losing water and running hot.

A worn water pump is the most likely. If the coolant is going down, the water is going somewhere.

The most common reasons an Oldsmobile Alero is overheating are a coolant leak (water pump, radiator, hose etc.), the radiator fan, or a failed thermostat. Coolant leak (water pump, radiator, hose etc.)

Oldsmobile Alero Overheating - RepairPal

Videos on overheating. You probably have air in the system from when you replaced the thermostat. The coolant system needs 'burping' of air.

My 99 alero keeps overheating but the coolant is full, and when i shut it off it starts gurgling what is wrong

Is the thermostat opening at 195 degrees ? Does the radiator fan come on at 220 degrees ?
The gurgling noise is usually air or coolant moving around in the system. If the engine is very hot this noise can be normal.

Water is leaking out of my coolant container.car is overheating with less than 2 mins of driving

Need to seal the leak in the coolant container with epoxy or by replacing the coolant container.

Fill coolant system with 50/50 solution up to 2 gallons may be required to stop the overheating.

Don't drive an overheated engine.

My alero 99 was overheating now engine soon light came on

What you can do is go to a parts store like Auto Zone or most part stores and have them check the codes. This will help find what could be causing the light to come on.It could just be something that was disconnected or removed when the thermostat was replaced.Let me know what you find and I`ll be glad to help you out.Good luck.

Overheating, whitesmoke from tailpipe

I hate to say it, but it definitely sounds like you have a blown head gasket. Overheating and white colored, "sweet" smelling smoke are both telltale signs of this. If it started overheating first and the white smoke came after, then you will need to have your cooling system inspected after the head gasket is replaced.

White coloured engine oil, overheating

White oil means water or coolant is leaking in via Head Gasket Failure or a crack in the head. Along with repair - be sure to have each cylinder compression tested to see if there is a crack that has developed. Thanks for using FixYa - a FixYa rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question.
