I had to get the gas cap replaced, because it had tear in the rubber solenoid. The check engine light came back on after about 2 months. I took it back to Autozone to read the codes and it came back with the same come code PO440. I had it reset, and it came back on but the battery had a small cut in the negative terminal. I took it back to Autozone and replaced it, because the battery was bad. Of course after disconnected the battery the check engine light went off. My battery was bad when I had it tested at Autozone. I had a new battery put in. My question was the battery the cause for the check engine light to come back on?

You need work space, tools and some previous experience to do this repair. Its better to take it to an authorized local service station.

An oil fouled spark plug indicates an engine with worn piston rings and/or bad valve seals, allowing excessive oil to enter the chamber..you need to change the piston rings....

you have to understand that there is a leak in the system other than the gas cap for the evaporative system. The system needs to be professionally closed, and smoke introduced into to find the leak, and a through component check, eg.. purge valve vapor canister vent solenoid all functioning correctly

firstly it could be that the check engine light is mal-functioning or not. why not drive it as they said and if after that its still on get back to us.

Obd code p0440 for check engine light on 2000 Toyota Corolla

p0440 code means that the evap system has a leak. This could be caused by a bad or improperly installed gas cap. Either that or the purge solenoid has failed or the canister is plugged and not working properly.
