I believe you will find the MAF sensor in similar locations on your LR3 as with P38. In the intake tube between your air filter and the engine there will be a section that has a multi-long-running to it. This middle section of the air intake houses your MAF sensor. This is a fairly fragile component, use care in handling, do not touch the wire or mesh and clean only as specifically instructed on the label of the product formulated specifically for cleaning it.

run fault codes and check for faulty sensors .Check for MAP/MAF/VAF sensor problems.

The engine and automatic transmission in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

Probably a faulty Mass Airflow Sensor.These have a high failure rate.Road test with scanner and watch the MAF readings under load,should be able to reach 120 grams per second.If the readings are low,replace sensor.

No, these are not the same. they can be located in the same area or together, but they are two different sensors. I would check the wiring before you replace either of these. Like I said they are close to each other. Since both came up ' I would check voltage to them first and then check for ground. They are located in the air plenum between the air filter box and the engine. I haven't seen both go out at the same time, unless it was an electrical issue.

You will more than likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a lack of power, detonation (spark knock), and/or a hesitation/surge on acceleration.

A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

• The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
• There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.

Possible Solutions

Possible solutions include:

• In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
• Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
• Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure

yes you can the MAF sensor is enclosed in a housing and the only other sensors are the AIT which is the air intake temp sensor. But no as long as you only pull the housing you will not damage any other components. Remember safety and carefully remove sensor and make sure to unplug sensor before removal and installing the new one make sure the air arrow points towards the engine and not away. This will cause serious issues.

It could be a few things. The EGR, IAC, TP sensor, vacuum leak, MAF sensor, air filter, bad ground to engine. Is the engine light on? If so were any codes retreived from it? What have you done or looked at so far?
