Hesitation or jerking at various speeds when accelerating in 2001 Lincoln Navigator

2001 Lincoln Navi, theft light illuminates (flickers) when accelerating and I feel what seems to be a slipping of the transmission usually at normal road speeds and at highway speeds as well. It feels like a bumping and passengers can feel it too.The tranny fluid is in good condition and quantity is right where it should be. If this is a coil pack, how do I find out which one is bad? Also since they are so far down inside how do I access them to change them?

Is overdrive activated when the light at the end of the gear shift is on or off on a Lincoln navigator 2001

If the "Overdrive Off" indicator is illuminated, this will prevent the torque converter from locking and engaging overdrive. This can be useful when traveling through hilly regions or when heavily loaded to keep the transmission from continuously hunting for the correct gear. When the light is off, the transmission will operate normally, including locking the torque converter and engaging OD. You should normally drive with the light off. If the light is flashing, that's an indication of a transmission diagnostic trouble code being present.

Cutting out when accelerating have noticed the "theft" light blinks when this happens.

That is your anti theft system cutting in. In most cases this happens when you have a vehicle that uses a security chip in the ignition key or the alarm itself malfunctions when it is built into the PCM of the vehicle. Unfortunately your best chance to test for this is the dealer.
