Emissions repairs

check the report on your smog test and go from there. If it passed then it should be working within the legal limits. If your MIL (check engine light) is not on, I think you are ok.

Pass smog test

change your oil and oil filter. Add a bottle of octane boost to the fuel tank then top off with fuel. Drive vehicle for about twenty minutes then have emissions tested. Unless you have a bad catalytic converter, you should pass emissions.

Engine light alarm, did not pass smog?

dependent upon your state restrictions it needs to be either fixed or taken through a waiver process. in most any state that does smogs anything after 1996 with an engine light on will fail smog because it only comes on to warn you of an emissions related issue.
I would suggest having it diagnosed at the nearest 2G smog certified shop...

What does my 77 gmc K20 need to pass CA smog

As far as I know. Anything 1994 and under don't have to go through emissions anymore, just safety. But, like countrysi248 said, it might depend on what state you live in. Best wishes to ya.
