1999 chevy Tahoe wont start but turns over

1999 Tahoe Starting Problem I have a 1999 Chevy Tahoe that had a tree fall on it on Christmas morning. I started the Tahoe twice after the accident. I had to cut the tree off it to move it out of the way. The second time was when the insurance adjuster came out. It ran fine when he was here and the next day it would not start. The other question is could he have done something to the Tahoe after I shut it off? He was crawling all around the front seat and back seats of the Tahoe to supposedly give me an estimate on fixing it. Then he tells me the Tahoe is totaled from the accident. He tried to get me to take 3k less than what it would cost to get a Tahoe with twice the miles on it. Is their a fuel cut off switch in case of an accident? If so where is it and how do I reset it. Before the accident the Tahoe had a loud buzzing sound from the gas tank. I was told that it was going out and would need to be replaced eventually. About 2 months before this the check engine light came on and stayed on. When I first turn the key on you can still hear the buzzing sound from the gas pump in the tank. Then the buzzing stops after a few seconds. Is that normal? How can I can I test the fuel pump or gas presure on the Tahoe to find out why it is not starting? The motor turns over but doesn’t start I think it also backfired when I was cranking it over. I cranked it till the battery was almost dead and then I put the battery on the charger. It has a full charge on the battery and I am going to check all the fuses tomorrow. I will also check the gas in just incase it is out of gas. (Daaaa) My wife has to go to work in 10 days so I need some help!!!! Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks Ricky Bobby the Red Neck

Your fuel pressure can be checked by connecting a fuel test gauge up to fuel test port which will be located on the fuel rail at the back of the engine on drivers side next to the distributor.Your fuel pressure should be 60-66 psi with key on engine off.If its not within these specs then replace the fuel pump and filter.

1999 Chevy Tahoe 4dr 4x4 cranks but wont start

Okay, there is always the possibility he disconnected something. This is not his Tahoe until the Title changes hands, but if you owe money to a 3rd party on this, then the pay off would go to the 3rd party with you holding the bag for any difference. If there is a 3rd party, the Insurance company may be holding the Tahoe for the 3rd party by Immobilizing it as the Insurance company plans to cancel the insurance and pay you money.

There can also be a significant difference in value if this vehicle runs or not. If it was driveable, you could have taken the vehicle somewhere for more estimates. You could also add money to the Insurance claim and pay to get it repaired at your additional cost. Then reinsure it.

At the very least, a Salvage title could be issued for the repaired vehicle after it is fixed up. These laws vary from state to state meaning some states will allow 75% of the value of a vehicle to come from a repair and other states limit to say 50%. That is why there is state to state movement of wrecks to secure a transferable Title. When you get the totaled check, you lose the Title to the Insurance company and must buy the vehicle back from them.

The buzzing sound from the fuelpump is normal to a degree. You should hear something but not excessively. Fuel pressure can be checked at the Tap on the top of the fuelrail.

You can go to Autozone.com and register your Tahoe, then get free chassis Diagrams and pictures of your Fusebox. This may help you find any switches or fuses. Fords have Inertia switches but I beleive GM uses something different.

You can also go to Autotrader or Trucktrader and expand the search for a replacement vehicle. Go to the Kelley bluebook site,(KBB.com) and it will give you values and sometimes tie into vehicles that are for sale. Once you find a vehicle you like, you can see if the insurance company can bargain down the price and secure this replacement for you.

I hope my solution is helpful to you.

1999 chevy silverado truck will start first thing in the morning, but then has problems starting the rest of the day. Sounds and smells flooded too. Starts best when its very cold outside.

In the morning if you turn the key w/o starting it and let it sit a while before starting, does it have trouble starting / smell flooded? If so, likely a bad / leaky injector.

Otherwise, I'd check the O2 sensor(s), likely have a bad one.

hope this helps.

My 1999 Chevy Tahoe wont start unless i spray starting fluid into the air intake but once it starts it runs fine, The fuel filter is brand new in it too, if it is the fuel pump how much will it cost me?

It is not a fuel pump problem.
It a cold start valve problem. It didn't open. There are 2 things to check.
1- The cooling thermal sensor is not sending the proper signal to the ECU to turn on the cold start valve.
2- The bad solenoid inside the cold start valve causing it not operational.
Case 1 you can easily replace the thermal sensor.
Case 2 checking this requires professional skill to confirm if there is a signal at the valve during the start.
Good luck

1999 chevy tahoe 5.7 wont start in the am without starting fluid but as long as you start it every 1/2 hr or so it starts fine. runs good once started any suggestions?

check fuel pressure. If its marginal then replace the pump. These trucks are touchy on fuel pressure. Just a couple psi low and they do exactly this. In the morning cold is when you need max fuel. Be sure to replace the harness also as these tend to lead to repeated pump failures when faulty, which is pretty common

1999 Chevy Tahoe won't Start. Motor will not turn over.

I'm assuming that by turning over, you mean that the engine fails to turn with the starter . Check your battery for 12v and make sure all connections are clean and secure. If battery has less than 12v charge it and check the charging system after re-starting. Lights and radio do not pull the same amperage as the starter and may not tell you much about battery condition. If you have full battery voltage, check the starter for 12v at the battery connection and the small (trigger wire) for 12v with the key turned to start position. If you have both, likely starter has failed.
