1999 Ford Ranger AC low side pressure reads 100 psi

Have had this 1999 Ranger SuperCab 5 years and never had an AC problem. It started getting less cool and within 2-3 days only blows warm air. Have had a couple of other cars the last few years that cost $600 and $1000 on AC fixes and I'm not going to put that kind of money into this Ranger with 160,000 miles. I've recharged the freon on multiple cars before and decided try that first. Bought a refill kit with a pressure gauge and checked the low side pressure and it reads 100 psi. Haven't looked up the psi specs on the Ranger, but AC systems I've charged before that needed freon were 20 psi or less and had upper psi limit on low side of 45-50. Do you think I got a kit with a bad gauge or is high pressure a sign of some other problem?

It was when I started, but I can't say for certain it hadn't clicked off before I got the cap off and fumbled around attaching the hose. CARELESS!! I'll check it again in the morning.

Was the a/c compressor running when you got this reading?

Sound like you where reading the pressure with the compressor off. They will equalize around that amount. If the compressor was running you have a bad compressor.

SOURCE: no air conditionong have 45 psi freon compressor

You don't have enough freon in it. 45 psi when the compressor is not turning is low, Add one can and see what happens. Normal low side pressure with the compressor turning is 35 psi.

the fuse box is inside the pickup under the drivers side dash, there is a flasher which is the round one in the fuse box, it controls turn signals and emergency flashers also in the same fuse box, there is a 15 amp fuse which controls just the turn signals it sits vertical instead of horizontal.

1999 ford ranger problems

A good idea to check the compression before anything else. Look for compression figures in the 100-160 psi range and evenly balanced. Lowest compression should be within 75% of the highest reading. Anything below 100 psi is a problem cylinder.

Actually a 2000 F-450, did not see a space for that year. 7.3 diesel. A/C issue. When first started up the A/C works fine, gets cold. But if I shut off the air for any reason the compressor will not cycle...

The A/C low side should read between 30 and 35 psi. Refrigerant pressure is indicative of its temperature, and 55 psi on the low side is too high and would only provide 60 degree air at the vents.

Low side on ranger for the port on the ac

hmm ..if you are looking for the low side air conditioner port .. then locate the condenser (thats in front of and looks like the radiator) .. you will notice two tubes going to that ..one is large the other small .. the small tube is the high pressure side .. the large tube is the low pressure side ... follow the large tube back until you find a cap that covers the low pressure port .. thats where you would fill with new refregerant (r134a) .. if you buy r134a, you can also get a filler hose and gage.. that hose will only hook up to the low pressure port ..it wont fit the high pressure port ...

!994 ford ranger supercab not getting any fuel, pump was pulled and works

just cause it works does not mean it works correctly, if it has low fuel pressure it wont work correctly, also check the fuel pump cut off switch on the driver side kick panel make sure the button is pushed in and you get power from both wires during cranking if not you will need a switch if only on wire has power

Sounds like your fuel pump is going out on you. Check your fuel pressure. You should have 40 psi when the key is in "on" position. You should have no less than 5 psi under that when it's running.
