2000 volkswagon jetta engine noise and new plugs skipping

My 2000 Jette 4cyl makes a loud chattering/clanging noise only when the car is in gear and accelerating. It does not make the noise in park even when you give it gas. The noise starts at about 20 miles per hour and is very loud when first starting the engine until it warms up. Also, I just had new bosch platinum plugs put in because the engine light started coming on and the free test at autozone says 3 plugs were mis-firing. After the new plugs were put in it worked ok for two days and then started misfiring again. I brought it to a guy that only works on Volkswagons and he said two of the plugs were not set right and he re-set them( also all the plug wires were replaced). A couple of days later the engine light came back on I had it checked at Autozone again and it read that plugs 1 and 2 were misfiring again. Now the car is actually running rougher in addition to the engine noises.

SOURCE: 2000 volkswagon jetta engine noise and new plugs skipping

engine is pinking, predetonation of fuel or the fuel mixture is weak which can be caused by a vacumn leak on the inlet manifold ,such as the take off for the servo ,or the manifold bolts loose. Also the timing is set wrong which could be a fault with sensor or the sensor drive ring .Without the car in front of me i cannot really diagnose a fault like this ,either get the VW mechanic to have a look and if he thinks its electronic then take it to VW

Is it squeaking noise, Loud rubbing noise? Brake problems? Clanging noise is bad engine problem. Was oil that low that they needed to add it. Have you checked it again since that? Do so immediately, If low, take it back NOW.

Your diagnosis could be correct though few vehicles these days have an adjustable clutch.

A loud clang isn't a noise commonly associated with clutch problems.

I advise you to take your car to an experienced person who would be happy to provide an almost instant diagnosis - this would be quicker and easier and save me a great deal of writing...

Loud clanging noise

It sounds like you need a new engine, the connecting rod bearing may have spun and there is to much play now and the oil journals may not be lined up causing the bearing to be starved of oil. Regard less it's going to be an expensive repair since your going to have to tear the whole engine and replace all the warn and damaged parts. Sorry about the bad news.

I currently have the same problem, and looking at replacing the transmission wire harness. I'm hoping this will cure my problem. My volkswagon mechanic thinks so anyways.
