the PCM cuts injectors if it detects spark bad. all EFI gas engine do every one from 1990 to now,.MPI and TBI.(a key fact on EFI)
step1; check all fuses.
step2 scan the PCm ,omg , errors you are ignoring. ?

the PCm cuts fuel for other reasons too,. even crash detection.SRS bags. or inertial switches tripped.
IMMO not happy, (antitheft, lamp on dash must be happy)
that means read the glove box guide in the IMMO key..
PCM cuts fuel of throttle (failures) stuck at wide open throttle.WOT
that is about it. Check spark next.
if all tests fail check cylinder compression above 150PSI all 4.

so you did not check spark first (after above fuse/scans)
did not try spray test fuel to the intake if spark is good. x4
chain drive cam 1AZ so that should be ok.
if have VVT make sure it is not dead or stuck wrong. a cam timing device. SOME DO.

the ECU is last never #1. ever. in fact it is good. and why replace the most expensive electric part on the car .
fuse are first, and sensors unplugged.

if all 4 die, CKP /CMP tests are next.

random order.

1. cam does not turn or is timed wrong. chain snapped
2. cmp dead cam sensor dead or # 1 cause.
3. CKP crank sensor dead,
4. coil packs 2 of them or 4 COP's all dead.
5. bad wiring related;.
6. ECU bad, rare.

SOME 1AZ USE 4 COPS AND OTHERS USE 2COIL PACKS THAT RUN 2 SPARK PLUGS CALLED WASTED SPARK]
AND IF SAY SPARK#1 IS DEAD, IF SPARK 1 OR 4 SPARK PLUG OR HV WIRE IS OPEN BOTH DIED. DEAD. FOOLING YOU.
COP'S MEANS COIL OVER PLUG AND IS 4 SPARK COILS
AND ALL4 MUST BE TESTED OR GO WILDLY ASTRAY YOU WILL
THE ONLY 2.0 l 1AZ IN USE 1980 IS RAV 4.

You need to line up the cam timing marks by the manual

Most engines are required to be a TDC or Top Dead Center and then align the timing mark on the injector pump with the housing or mounting surface mark. I would obtain a specific manual for your engine...just to make sure. Best Wishes.

Timing chain arrangement for Toyota 1AZ-FE:

Only one timing mark which is on the main shaft. The injector pump and camshaft are timed with a bolt.. their is a small hole in the camshaft and injector pullys and a treaded hole in the engine behind them. Keep turning the engine until the mark on the bottom shaft is looking up and the holes in the pullys are lined with the holes in the engine if you are changing the belt or chain(***.Import) then put in two screw's if you are just checking the timing then a screwdriver will do. The timing may be out.The timing chain may have been installed wrong with the timing marks out of alignment with the ones on the camshaft and crankshaft.If the distributor was removed that could be it too. To time it, if the timing chain was installed right , Take off the distributor cap. Make a mark where the number one spark plug wire is. remove the number one spark plug. turn the motor manually (in nuetral) with the parking brake on.Turn the motor and install a screwdriver or other shaft inside the number one sparkplug hole. Turn until it is at the top and you can feel it with the screwdriver. turn the rotor to the mark you placed on the number one wire. replace the cap. remove the screwdriver and replace the sparkplug . Your engine should be timed now. if not check your timing belt to see if it is in alignment with the proper marks on the cam and crankshaft.

This engine has a timing belt.Once you have removed the engine front cover , turn the engine to the marks as shown in the diagram.Lock the crankshaft in this position with an old reverse light switch from the gearbox by inserting it into the hole under the bell housing (manual transmission).Before removing the belt , loosen 3 bolts on the injector pump after you locked this with a 8.5 mm drill bit.Replace the belt and pull the tensioner to 16 Nm.If you are fitting a whole pulley replacement kit take note of the upgraded spacers and their position.Dont forget to tighten the injector pump bolts again after you tensioned the belt and recheck your timing marks.
