1993 Grand Cherokee won't stay running or turn over

I put a new motor (4.0 Inline six) in my 1993 grand cherokee. I started it and it was running at 1500 rpms and I could not get it to go down. The gas was in the gas tank that sat outside for about a year. After i had the jeep running for 30 mins, it cut off. I cant get it to start back up. Sometimes it will turn over for maybe a few seconds, but then shut off. I have checked all vacuum hoses and can't find any leaks. Any suggestions? Any sensors that could cause it to turn off when hot?

Sounds like a clogged fuel filter to me, maybe look into the TPS: throttle positioning sensor. Good luck

To clear codes on these, you can disconnect the battery, then re-connect. The only code remaining will be one indicating battery power was interuppted. This will not work on 98 and newer vehicles.

Replace the oxygen sensor. Worked for me! My 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee was doing this same thing, even after replacing the battery, crankshaft sensor, computer, ignition coil, wires and plugs and fixing vacuum leaks.

On a 1993 jeep grand Cherokee 4.0 inline six engine. what would cause the crankshaft positioning sensor to continuously go bad in approximately one to two weeks after installing a new after market sensor.,...

Two items I'd look at. first would be the sensor itself. If you see contact (scuff) marks on the business end of the sensor you may need to shim it back away from the flywheel a bit. Second, if it's failing electrically, check the actual reference voltage of the system.(usually around 5 volts) If it's too high you may have a problem with the computer (voltage regulator is inside) or a bad system ground. (there are at least five ground points.... on fenders, block and firewall) You also need to check the wiring itself for any possibility of shorting to ground. I can understand having a defective unit once, even twice, but after the fourth one there is definitely something abnormal going on there! You can find good wiring diagrams in chiltons repair manual.

It shouldn't be a problem, just clearance issues might be a problem in turns making it a pain to park
