Warning light? There is an orange sun-shaped symbol that started coming on today next to my external thermometer reading. I looked in my owner's manual, but I do not know what it is. Can anyone tell me what it means?

Could be a bad starter, bad fuse for starter, or even bad relay for starter

Have a look in your owners manual. It should explain what all the symbols are there.

your description is very vague their are 2 that might look like it- one is a check engine the other is a battery if you look in your owners manual it will tell you what the symbol is also the following link has synbols and their meaning

According with the S60 Owners Manual... warning symbol in center of dashboard...
This symbol shines as a red or orange light depending on the severity of the discovered fault.
Red symbol - Stop the car as soon as possible in a suitable location and read the message shown in the text window.
Orange symbol - Follow the instructions shown in the text window.

hi, all lights the first and important battery light this shows RED when the alternator NOT carging:
the oil light shows ORANGE LOW on oil:
the engine managment light shows when engine sensors detect faults shaped like an engine ORANGE light
head main beam BLUE when ON MAIN BEAM
indicator FLASHING GREEN light
hazard warning RED light
brake fluid low light RED looks like this ( )
brake handbrake ON RED light looks like this ( )
side light GREEN looks like a star
most of the important lights are RED or ORONGE gerry

The battery shaped one indicates that the battery isn't being properly charged by the alternator and the voltage is getting low. The thermometer shaped one indicates that the engine is overheating when it is illuminated. Since both are coming on at about the same time and both the alternator and water pump are belt driven I would start by having the serpentine drive belt and pulleys checked to make sure they are in good condition and capable of driving both items. The coolant level and battery should also be checked at the same time. These engines don't tolerate being overheated so don't continue to drive it with the high temp warning light on or you could severly damage the engine.

think its a turbo warning light ,and as this car is a 2008 model then its dealer only because the software is encrypted any attempt to read codes will activate the immobilisor ,goodbye you local general garage

this would be a low tire symbol have you tire pressure check it will come on when one off your tires get a little low. the light will reset itself after the proper tire inflation is put in ..thanks for choosing fixya
