If the low brake fluid warning light is on, and there are no leaks. It means brake pads and rotors are worn. The missing fluid stays in the calipers until pads are replaced. Adding fluid ignores the "real" problem.
That should be the symbol that indicates that the external temerature is cold enough to freeze, just a cute little heads up to make you think about driving a little more cautiously... Hope this helps...

If it's round with a line down the middle, then it's a fault in brake system warning. You should check your brake fluid level.
