SOURCE: A mechanic told me that both catalytic converters

that sounds very high to me... i put high flow performance cats from magnaflow on my cougar and they were $250 a piece... those are top of the line catalytic converters that are made for race style engines to gain more power but can be put on your car even if its fully stock.... i think your mechanic is a little pricy.. even with installation it shouldnt come even close to that much

I have a 2002 mercury cougar that will only run 60 miles per hour floored It is only getting 10 miles to the gallon and has a bad miss Have done plugs and wires thinking it might be the catalytic converter...

You could be right about the catalytic converter but I would check your air cleaner first and if it's plugged or dirty replace it you may also have a vaccuum leak

I failed emissions test. The HC and CO both failed. I was told by a family member that it sounds like the catalytic converter and I wanted to know how much that would cost or estimated cost to replace

Rich fuel mixture is leaking fuel injectors, failed oxygen sensors

Need clean air filter, new spark plugs

An Exhaust Converter is only good for 12 to 14 years max then
it has to go

This is a social web site we use as you do so prices are are over the internet less labor of coarse

2002 mazda tribute how many converters?

Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute same engine same problem check out Catalytic Converter problems on both in the long run will have to replace all 3 of the converters may blow a hole in the EGR valve too. Go for after market parts will save you money and not going thru a dealership will help but expect to pay close tto $1,800 mostly due to labor to replace these parts. If you have a check engine light try going to Auto parts store and use their computer to check out code. Not getting this fixed will leave you stranded when it goes. Vehicle will suddenly bogg down and trust me when your doing 60 mph on the hwy. and suddenly this happens to you not a good feeling. Hope this helps.

Anywhere from $100-$400 depending on the converter needed. Then a hour or two of labor.

1999 cougar diagnostic code p0430 and p0420

Failed or faulty oxygen sensor, or faulty catalytic converter. It's actually the oxygen sensor reading that the catalytic converter is not functioning properly & needs relacement. That's provided the oxygen sensor is not faulty, which personally, I'd go for that first.
Both would explain excessive fuel usage.
