Tail light replacement is not as hard as it seems.
Tools needed:flat head screwdriver and a deep 5/32 socket(a pair of pliers will work).
Step 1: open trunk and pull back truck liner at tail light. There is a small button clip on liner.Use screwdriver to pop up the center of button clip, pull clip out of hole.
Step 2:You will see a black wire attached to the body of car with 2 white clips.Use screwdriver to pop clips off of studs.
Step 3:Remove the nuts from the studs and pull tail light assembly straight back away from car.The outer side of the light just snaps in and out of place.
Step 4:Turn light socket counter clockwise 1/3 turn and pull out.
Step 5:Pull bad bulb straight out and replace.Reverse steps to reassemble.

This is for Nissan Sentra Models 2007-2010.

1. Open the trunk and remove trunk liner by first removing popcap black button which fastens the liner. Then pull away liner from metal.
2. Notice two white protective plastic spikes covering 2 screw threads with 2 small bolts. Remove white protective spikes manually or by prying them off of their screws and proceed to remove bolts.
4. Pry away entire brake lamp housing from the exterior of the car in swinging door motion towards the sidepanels of the car. Dont pull too hard or let it hang as this may damage wiring - support lamp housing in place.
5. Replace lamp by manually pulling it's housing out of the lamp and then pulling the bulb itself out of socket and inserting new one.

Both suggestions worked well. The caps on my screws were brown but they were both in line with each other. The caps popped off with a little nudge from a flat head screwdriver. Just take your time. It only took me about 10 minutes to do. Thanks for saving me $38.00.

The Brake light housing is "popped" into and out of place. Use a screw driver and slide between the plastic and metal and apply a little pressure. I couldn't get mine off completely but you'll be able to move it enough to swap the bulb.

SOURCE: 2002 Ford Taurus Driver Side tail light bulb replacement

open the trunk.
pull back the cover on the side you need to change, there are usually 3 black plastic nut you have to remove before doing this.
after the trunk interior cover is pulled off there are 3 nuts, 11mm wrench or socket will take them off. pull the taillight assembly out and twist the socket out containing the bulb that is blown. the bulb just pulls out of the socket. while the bulb is out you should inspect the socket for corrosion, it wont hurt to clean it up and put some die electric grease in there

Check the fuses as well as the wiring near the tail light.

If all seems good, get a cheap multimeter and check the voltage in the wires that go to the tail light (red probe on one wire and black probe on the other). If you get a reading about 12 Volts (or -12 depending on which wires the black and red are on) the problem is the tail light or bulb itself.

2011 Ford Escape driver side tail light not working correctly - lights are on but turn signal flash not working and neither is the brighter brake light

I would guess that you need a new bulb. Many of these tail lights actually have two filaments inside them, one that is used for a dimmer light (running light) and one that is used for a brighter light like (brake light, turn signal). The easiest thing to try (and probably the cheapest) would be to buy a replacement bulb and change it. Most places that sell automotive light bulbs will have a large catalog where you look up the make model and year of the car you need a light for and it will tell you which replacement bulb you will need. Then look in your cars manual to see how you access and replace the bulb.

How to replace brake light bulb

  1. Open the back hatch of your Honda Pilot and look for two small screws. They will be right behind the tail light. Remove the two screws, using a standard screw driver. You should now be able to pull the tail light box away from the car a few inches to allow access to the sides of the tail light box

  2. Remove the two ball sockets found on both sides of the tail light box. At this point you should be able to move the entire assembly enough to get at the tail light. Inside the tail light you will find three bulb sockets. Remove all three bulbs by turning the sockets to the left.

  3. Then replace each break light bulb by screwing them clockwise into the sockets. Then, reassemble the tail light box in reverse order.

Change brake light . How to get at bulb ? Driver side brake light is burned out . I need to replace it . How do I get to the bulb ?

open trunk and pull back carpet around light. Remove 2 nuts, then the tail light needs to be pulled out because it is held in by a clip that can be snug at times. Once out you have access to all lights on that side.

Brake light, 2008 Nissan Sentra

Open the trunk and locate the trim door that covers the back of the drivers side tail light assembly. Open the door and locate the bulb holder. The bulb holder can be removed from the tail light assembly housing by turning counter clockwise 1/4 turn. Holding the bulb holder in one hand, press gently on the bulb and turn then bulb counter clockwise to remove. Replace with a combo bulb and reverse proceedure to re-install.

99 mercury mystide had rear running light broken

If the driver's side tail light is working, it's not a fuse. Use a test light to check for power at the bulb holder. One terminal will be for tail light, the other for brake/turn light. If the is constant power for tail light, replace bulb. If no power, trace wiring from bulb holder to driver's side junction. Probable broken wire between the two tail lights.

Mazda 3 tail light on, brake light not on

The bulb actually has two seperate elements in it.
That is why the tail light works fine.

If you take the bulb out you will see the seperate elements.
Change the bulb and it should be fine.
