There are two drain plugs on the bottom of the pan. remove the lower one to drain the trans fluid. To refill, use a pump and pump the fluid into the upper drain plug until it seeps out and re-install the plug, similar to refilling a manual trans.
Once this is done, Start the vehicle and run it for about 3 minutes, shifting through all gears (do not drive vehicle Remove the upper drain plug and let any excess fluid drain out. Done. This is as per Mitchell OnDemand.

i would say the trans u put in is bad if it were used i would contact the person you bought it from to grt another one

pending on the type of clutch in the vehicle, you may be low on clutch fluid. (if your clutch is hydraulic)
other than that it is most likely the entire clutch itself.

Your shifter cable has either come loose from the cam positioner on the tranny or the cable is rotted somewhere inside its housing.

No they are not compatible. They changed the crank between 95 and 96. I have a 96 that needed an engine swap and the dealer that I bought it from was paying for the engine, he bought a 95 engine and after a month of trying the mechanic said no way no how, the crank between the two is different.
