Is it a vacuum hose? Find the open hole in the plenum (you should hear a pronounced hissing sound with the engine running). THAT is where the hose goes.

you are going to drain and loosen the heater hoses from under the hood, the rest is inside. get yourself a repair manual cheap on ebay. you are lucky in that you have no passenger airbag and most likely you can do this yourself.

Ok.. The code P1400. Is. Related with the E.G.R system.
" Exaust Gas Recirculation"
The code P1400 is Exactly.
Sensor DPFEGR low voltage.
This code can set for.
Leaking up-strim pressure hose.
DPFEGR sensor Short to ground or signal return circuit.
VREF selenoid shorted to ground or signal return circuit.
Faulty DPFEGR .
or In the last case faulty PCM.

Ok.. The DPFEGR is a little box Located at the intake manifold.
to identificate See the Exaust Manifold Gasket you will see.
2 Little hoses Goin at the little box. When you found.
Check the hoses for cracked or damaged repair as need.
Check the connector.
The VREF. to locate follow the Little vaccum hose GREEN.
Goin to the EGR attached at the Intake manifold .
and check the connection.
If everything is OK. I recomend to replace the DPFEGR.

NOTE. If you don't have enought Expertise on vehicles.
I recomed to consult with your mechanic. and maybe give this information.
But if you can do your self go ahead.

Many auto parts stores carry maintenance and service manuals for the 1987 Ford vehicles. Don't recall seeing a "diagram" of a "cooling system" though. There isn't much to it...a radiator, outlet hose to engine block, inlet hose from engine block to radiator with a thermostat installed. Problems...thermostat can stick, radiator can corrode up, leak in radiator can occur, engine water jacket can rust up. Routine maintenance and antifreeze solution can help keep the radiator working fine.

can you see the diagram under the hood? if not try searching a junkyard for either the diagram or a complete motor

there should be a diagram either on the underside of the hood or on the radiator support, if that fails I would go to http://www.rangerpowersports.com/ and see about finding pictures of the needed lines or perhaps picking up a FSM for your truck from Ebay, they usually don't cost more then 20-40 dollars and if you are serious about doing your own mechanic work it is invaluable
