Does 1984 cj7 have high & low beam headlights? I just bought a 84 cj7 and it seems as though you only turn the nob from parking to actual lights.

Just bought 84 cj7, Can't wait to join the jeep family. I don't know what I should be looking for as far as the headlights go, It appears as I turn a knob, and then the lights are on, turn again and the lights are off. My question is, did the 1984 cj7 come with high and low beam? or is on and off all you get?

SOURCE: INOP low beam and high beams

The problem is the headlight switch itself - it's one of the most common failures on these cars. The part, brand-new, is about $158 from ECSTuning.com. Replacing it involves removing the airbag and steering wheel - not difficult but a little nerve-wracking due to the power of the airbag.

If this is something you want to tackle on your own, reply back here and I can give you a step-by-step on doing the work yourself. Or you can go to a shop/dealer and just have them do it. They'll probably charge you at least two hours' labor, even though it's a 40 minute job. Let me know what you would like to do.

SOURCE: Low beam headlight is out, doesn't look like a fuse

Check the Headlight Switch. If your headlights come on automatically check the headlight sensor and its associated relay.

SOURCE: 1984 cj7 jeep headlight switch connector

Most scrapyards will sell the connector if they aren't going to save the harness. You can remove the wires by using a thin piece of metal pushed in from the switch side of each wire to bend down the lock tab. Draw a diagram of where the wires go before changing it.

Low and high beam headlights don't work. Parking lights, break lights, turn signals all work. Two weeks I had to buy a new battery and but before I bought the battery both low and high beam lights worked...

More than likely there is a bad ground. The same ground wire that is used for the headlights is spliced into and used for the parking lights, brake lights and directional lights. The circuits for the brake lights, the brake light switch, the directions and directional switch are related. The circuits for the parking lights, headlights, headlight switch and high/low beam switch are related as well, but the only thing all these circuits have in common is their ground source. Any questions feel free to write back. Good Luck.

Replaced the headlights and it seems as though the high beams are not working right. They are on but not right, when you turn on the bright lights should both the low and high beam bulls be on?

Depends on model, most of GM products now have seperate beams for low and high, and some high beams require a different headlight for proper brightness.
