Replaced the speed sensors on the trans case the first time this occurred about two hears ago and everything was back to normal, did that this time and it did not work,
I have a chevy c3500 with a 4L80E tranny. recently it started shifting funny. one day it wouldnt shift out of (i think 2nd) and my max speed was 35 without winding out tranny. drove it later that day and it wad fine. this happened about six other times and after turning truck off it corrected itself. now that isnt working and it wont shift. any suggestions anyone?
It could be the same problem as you have before.
it was two years, it must have regular check up or cleaning on this parts. the proper maintainance keeps engine in good condition meet problem only sometimes..

Check the Vehicle Velocity Sensor (V V S)-(Speed Sensor) or the wire harness to the VVS. IF the ECM is not getting a signal from the V V S, the PCM can not give the signal to switch gears. The V V S is on the drivers side of the end ot the transmission that is held on by one bolt. Best thing to do is to have the truck scanned at Auto Zone for a DTC code and to confirm that the V V S has gone bad and they can give you the step by step instruction to replacing the sensor and takes about 15 min to do. Good luck and keep me posted. Keep an eye on the transmission fluid, make sure you don't run the transmission to hard and burn it out over a $40.00 sensor which is better then $1,800 for a transmission replacement.

has the fluid and trans filter been changed? this is due every 60,000 miles or sooner if used for towing, many times worn out friction modifiers in the fluid can cause this harsh shift problem.

Sounds like a speedo gear in the transmission ... I think the tahoe one had a speedo cable the speed sensor is located in the speedo ... will cause all those to fail if speedo is not working as did in my Astrovan

Unfortunately,the transmission is probably bad.
