2004 Dodge Neon SXT Oil light

When I have been driving at 55 - 70 mph, and I take the exit to work or home and have to slow down or stop, my oil light will come on, then immediately go off. It has been doing this for a few weeks now. I have changed the oil twice and check it everytime it comes on. Everything seems to be fine. But today when I took the exit it came on and off a few times. I'm thinking it has to do with the oil pressure? What could it be? If it is the oil pressure, what do I do?

I have a 2004 dodge neon and the oil light dings at random.

Might be worth checking your oil level first. If that's correct, the previous answer sounds accurate.

Hi, My name is Norma. I drive a 2005 Dodge Neon. The oil can light on the dash board keeps turning on... I drive for a few miles and on a stop sign or red light when I press the brakes that's when...

Is your oil level low? If your oil pressure is low as indicated by the light, you will do serious damage to your engine if you continue to drive without repairing the fault. The fault could run the gamut from a loose oil pickup, to a bda oil pump to bad bearings.

Driving home, 2003 Dodge neon starts to slow down, oil light has come on intermittedenly before, engine started to lose power, brakes locked up, and steering wheel locked up. Car had to be towed. Thanks.

lets hope its not a bad motor from lack of oil pressure, the loss of brakes and steering is due to the engine stopped running this is normal, but hte oil light coming on with the engine running is not good, you will need to see if the engine spins and trys to start, this will tell you a little bit, if it spins then it didnt lock up, and maybe its a fuelpump or timing belt that let go, you will have to do some testing ,check for fuel pressure and spark at the plugs,

Dodge neon oil pressure..

sounds like you are going to need a new oil pump. if the screen gets cloged on the pump it cant produce enough pressure in idle. i would try to drive it as less as possible

2004 dodge stratus oil light started coming on when I slowed down or cam to a stop and then would turn off when I started driving again. Now it stays on al the time

You need to have that chk'd out. Even low oil pressure can damage the engine let alone no oil pressure. Ck your oil level. It is a serious issue to have that light on. Good Luck, _Ned_

My 04 dodge stratus oil light comes on when i slow down or come to a stop, but turns off as i go

Sounds like your oil level is too low.
When you slow down or stop, your oil levels out and is too low for the gauge to read.
When you speed up, your oil sloshes and splashes the sensor, thus making it appear that it is circulating properly, when it actually isn't.

Is your temperature high, too?

Camshaft

on a neon the cam sensor is located at the drivers side of the engine on the end of the head. it mounts directly over the end of the front camshaft. it is about 3 inches wide and about 2 and a half inches tall. its made of black plastic and has a wire conector in the back of it. these very comonly leak oil so be careful of the o ring and cleaning the mounting surface.

Where is the oil pump on a 2004 Dodge Neon?

Oil light that comes on while in idle means the oil pump screen is clogged or damaged, cause low oil pressure to the engine. That part is only $30. It could be a bad oil pump though, if that is the case the pump can run you $100. Either way you need to get it fixed ASAP it can cause major damage to the engine in a very short period of time!
