Im not gonna defend the guy, but when an inexperienced person changes a valve gasket, oil drips everywhere . it gets on your exhaust manifold and will burn off causing your car to smoke like cheech and chong!. as for smoke coming out of your tailpipe. that could be something completely different., why did you think you needed to have your valve cover gasket replaced? were you burning oil. or was oil pouring out of the valve cover? did you check your oil dipstick? was it milky? or clumpy? was your car losing power? need a lil more info. starter could be he shorted it. or it was just time for it to go. starters just go sometimes. no warning. but like i said no info. smoke deffinately worse cause of oil on exaust manifold. it will burn off eventually. hopefully that will be the end of the probs. but check that oil. look for color like milk. power in car getting less and less. if thats the case. than blown head gasket. many other possibilities. does it leak coolant? maybe freeze plug popped out. lets just hope alot of spilled oil and big smiles. :)

Testimonial: "Thank u so much for your feedback it is very helpful something i can tell the mechanic i going to take it to now..i hope its just a lot of oil too"

96 Saturn sl2,smoke problem will a bad valve cover gasket make vehicle smoke like crazy out exhaust system

What color is the smoke? White or Blue?
If it's more white than blue you probably have a bad head gasket or a warped / cracked head. The smoke you're seeing is coolant seeping into a combustion chamber. Major job.

If it's more blue/grey you might have rings that are shot, or a piston that has a hole in it.

Either way, it really doesn't have much to do with that valve cover gasket; that gasket will just make it leak oil. If it get's on the exhaust it will smoke, but not out the tailpipe.

I had my intake manifold gasket change along with the valve cover gasket. White smoke is still coming out of tailpipe?

White smoke may indicate an internal coolant leak or low coolant reservoir levels. Coolant leaks can also leak into the oil of your car causing it to be frothy or milky looking smoke. You might have a cracked head gasket, engine block, or cylinder head which are all caused by overheating.

2001 Ford E-250 has excessive oil consumption with no visible leaks and has a p301 misfire code

Do you notice any blue smoke out the tailpipe?
The P0301 code means you have a misfire in cylinder 1. If I were to put these two symptoms together, I would guess that there is oil leaking into the cylinder, which is causing it to misfire. The oil then burns out the back.
If this is the case, it is probably because your spark plug tubes are leaking. Replacing the valve cover gasket or spark plug tube seals (some cars have a valve cover gasket that has the tube seals included) will solve the problem.

You can check for the leak by pulling the spark plug wire out of that cylinder and seeing if it is oily. If it is, there is your leak.

This is just a first guess. Let me know what you find.
Also, let me know about whether or not your tailpipe has blue-colored smoke coming out.

After smog pump reinstallment, car wont crank

If car cranked but white smoke came out of the tailpipe. The car may have either a bad head gasket or a cracked cylinder head. You mentioned changeing the radiator.Did the car overheat severely? This would stress the headgasket. The car may not start now because the plugs are wet(water)or the rings have lost their ability to seal compression due to overheating.

My 2003 Lincoln LS started smoking from underneath the hood and I think tailpipe. I opened hood and saw what looked to be oil everywhere. I put water in car and it still smoked. My engine temperature is ok...

A leak ! valve cover gasket , oil pan , timing cover , front or rear seal etc.... Your best bet , take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop.

White smoke coming out of tailpipe when starting what could it be?

The white smoke is most likely burning antifreeze due to a blown head gasket. The oxygen sensor code is most likely an oxygen sensor that has been destroyed by the anyifreeze. Replacing the oxygen sensor will not do any good until the problem with the engine is fixed. The trans code is anybody's guess because there are probably 50 different transmission codes possible and you did not mention which one you are getting.

My toyota is start burning engine oil besides the pistons rings what else can make that happen

if you have bluish smoke coming from the tailpipe, then it is bad rings. however the valve cover gasket on toyotas tend to start leaking with age as well and if there is not much smoke, the oil may be leaking onto the exhaust tubes or down the ports past the spark plugs into the cylinder.

2002 smoking started while driving, alot of smoke grey in color

Could be a lot of things:

I am assuming it's coming out the tailpipe? Did you over heat the car? I'd check the oil to make sure it isn't milky brown. If it is, it's probably a head gasket. You would have a LOT of smoke coming out the tailpipe though due to the coolant evaporating during the combustion cycle.

It could be your CCV (oil seperator) which cost about $150 in parts (if you buy them) plus labor.

It could also be your valve cover gasket.

Sorry to be so vague but more information is needed to pinpoint the problem. Hopefully this will get you in the right direction. Good luck.

OIl leak in 2001 Grand Cherokee Laredo

valve cover gasket is like $20 and a do it yourself job, just buy a manual like a chiltons from an auto parts store. if it was valve cover, the smoke would be coming from engine, not tailpipe.

rear seal is in between engine and tranny, this would cause oil to leak on ground, but not to burn

if smoke is coming from tailpipe, your piston rings might be going bad. that is an expensive repair, but switching to synthetic oil may give you several more years of life out of the piston rings, synthetic oil has a way of soaking into bad piston rings and temporarily making them like new again, unless they are already too far gone.
