Question about 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I brought my 2004 Jeep Grand cherokee to the mechanic because it is making a really loud squeeling noise(like when a belt needs replacing but times that by 500) and the mechanic said that it was the water pump..... I have never heard of a water pump making a lous squeeling noise, then he said itd be between 3-400 to fix. Well this morning he said it was going to be 500.00 because her also highly recommends getting the timing belt and the timing belt pulley replaced as well. My question or concern rather is that I am being taken for a ride... Does it normally cost round 500 for water pump, timing pulley and timing belt to be replaced?

SOURCE: 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee timing belt/chain replacement (not 4WD)

I BELIEVE THAT IT HAS A TIMING CHAIN. IT SHOULD BE CHANGED AT OR ABOUT 100,000 MILE. BUT IT DOESN'T NECESSARILY NEED TO BE CHANGED THEN, JUST INSPECTED.

SOURCE: I have a 1994 jeep

i have run across alot of new alternators especially rebuilt ones that are faulty . b 4 replacing the steering pump I would pull the alt and have it checked. if you did away with the a/c compressor completely then that eliminates the a/c comp. clutch. The power steering being bad the noise should change when you turn sharply.

Only thought is, when you tighten the bolts ,go a little on
one ,then the other, like 3 times, don't tighten one all the way
first. Makes the housing warp.

2005 grand cherokee squealing and loss of coolant

Check belt tension, squeeling is most likely due to belt slippage. Have you noticed any fluid leaking from under your Jeep? Coolant level drop could be from bad water pump, when the pump needs replacing, water flows out of a "weep hole". It could be leaking onto your belt also, causing it to squeel

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee makes a loud ticking noise, won't start.

Your problem is likely a bad battery and/or corrosion on the battery terminals. Remove the cables from the battery terminals and clean them with a wire brush or other tool. NOTE: always remove the negative cable first and reconnect it last. Reconnect the cables and then try to start/jump the vehicle again. If that doesn't clear the problem, take the battery to your local auto parts store or supplier and have them check it. You will probably need a new one.

Sounds like a loose belt, Depending on what engine etc., it may need to be changed or if you have adjustment, tightened. When adjustment or replacement done, is a good time to check all pulleys. If your not up to it, an adjustment should not cost too much, few minutes work in most cases, if belt needs changing, price of belt & a little more labor involved.
