How to turn off airbag when replacing steering column

I have a 95 Buick Roadmaster and I'm trying to replace the steering column. I want to make sure the airbag doesn't go off when I take the old one out. The old one is broken from attempted theft, and car hasn't been running for over 3 months now. How can I make sure I don't wind up with a broken face?

The Airbag has its own battery. It can go off if it is not deactivated.

My 95 buick roadmaster headlights wont come on

Most likely switch is bad if you have good battery take swith out and cross two power wires and see if they work then if so it is the switch. If its all in the column then it is possible that the switchis bad from wear and tear on the arm.

What are the instructions to remove and replace the combo turn signal switch, located in the steering column, for a 1999 bravada

Warning: 1995 and later models are equipped with an airbag. Always turn the steering wheel to the straight ahead position, place the ignition switch in Lock and remove key, then remove the airbag fuse and unplug the yellow Connector Position Assurance (CPA) connector at the base of the steering column before working in the vicinity of the impact sensors, steering column or instrument panel to avoid the possibility of accidental deployment of the airbag, which could cause personal injury. The yellow wires and connectors routed through the instrument panel are for this system. Do not use electrical test equipment on these yellow wires or tamper with them in any way while working under the instrument panel.
Caution: On models equipped with a Delco Loc II anti-theft audio system, be sure the lockout feature is turned off before performing any procedure which requires disconnecting the battery.

  • The turn signal switch function is incorporated into the multi-function switch, along with the wiper/washer and headlight dimming controls.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the steering column covers and the drivers knee bolster.
  • Remove the two Torx screws securing the multi-function switch to the top of the steering column.
  • Clip the wire-ties securing the multi-function switch harness to the other steering column wires.
  • At the bottom of the steering column, remove the bolt securing the large bulkhead electrical connector to the firewall.
  • Separate the two multi-function switch connectors from the large bulkhead connector.
  • The multi-function switch and its harness must be replaced as a unit.
  • Installation is the reverse of removal

Steering on a 94 Roadmaster wagon jams suddenly when going to make a turn. Power steering fluid has been flushed and replaced. Problem appears to occur in rainy weather, possibly after going through puddle...

make sure the return hose for the power steering is good and the drive belt is good if the car has over 40,000 Miles on it i would change the belt as well Happy Holidays as always wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.

Replace airbag on `92 honda accord

When an SRS cable reel assembly is removed and set aside during vehicle repairs, the cable reel may rotate inside the assembly so it is no longer centered. If the assembly is reinstalled with the reel off-center, the cable can break when the steering wheel is turned to full lock. The cable reel holding fixture locks the reel while the assembly is off the vehicle, keeping it centered for reinstallation.
CABLE REEL REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Follow the procedure in the appropriate service manual for disconnecting the battery, and removing the dashboard panels, steering column covers, airbag, and steering wheel.
^ Always install short connectors on the connectors for the driver's and passenger's (if so equipped) airbags.
^ Make sure the front wheels are pointed straight ahead before removing the steering wheel.
2. Verify that the cable reel is centered; the yellow gear tooth is lined up with the alignment mark on the cover. Install the cable reel holding fixture in the cable reel assembly as shown. Use a TORX T-10 wrench.
3. Disconnect the 6-P connector, then remove the cable reel assembly.
CABLE REEL INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Verify that the front wheels are still pointed straight ahead.
2. Reinstall the cable reel assembly, and reconnect the 6-P connector.
3. Remove the cable reel holding fixture.
4. Follow the service manual procedure for reinstallation of the steering wheel, airbag, steering column covers, and dashboard covers.
5. Verify SRS operation as described in the service manual. Road test the vehicle.
^ If the steering wheel spoke angle is not correct, change it by adjusting the tie rod ends. Do not remove and reposition the steering wheel.

I have a 95 buick century. the turn signals do not work, put in 2 prong flasher under dash, 4 way flasher works, check fuses and there is no break.

If you have bought the car from a person they may have done some work on the steering column, If they did odds are they cut the wires instead of taking the time of feeding them up through the column. If this is the case a new wiring harness for it is only about 30 bucks, but you have to pull the steering wheel, be very carefull if you have airbags. all the work in changing that out is unplug the old one and tape a wire to the end pull it out and tape the new one to the same wire and pull it back through. I hope that helps.
