SOURCE: How to replace rear freeze plug

You will have to pull the trans to get to the freeze plug. Take a punch and knock one side of the plug in then pull the rest of the plug out with plires.Take sand paper and clean the hole, Apply permatex sealant around the new plug, and drive it in with a socket that will just fit inside the freeze plug. You should replace them both while you are there. Good Luck

SOURCE: Installed new distributor in 97 Chevy Vortec V6

Check the wire harness to the Ignition control module (ICM) or replace it. It cost around $40,00 from Auto Zone and it's common for the ICM to fail, or it may just be starting to fail and it's also know that the OEM distributor had a screen vent at the bottom of the distributor for ventilation to prevent condensation from forming in the distributor. Check to make sure your new distributor has a vent and that it's not plugged up with shipping plastic. Condensation may be forming causing the misfire in the distributor. Good luck and keep me posted.

Which is the #1 plug post on the distributor cap

They are marked on the intake manifold. They are raised numbers at each intake port. If its a V6 or V8 its the drivers side, furthest to the front of the engine. Hope that helped, if it did place leave good marks for me,

change the ignition module located under the rotor in the distributor cap it has 2 small 8mm bolts and plugs into the distrutor wiring in the cap ( you,ll see) it is flat usually with 2 wires clipped into each end ..this will be the problem..I have changed many.
