The other day i noticed that the driver side front amber bulb under neath the headlight as well as the side amber bulb light up when i hit the brakes. The passenger side doesn't. When you put the headlights on its the opposite, the passenger side lights up, like they should, and the driver side is out, until i hit the brake. then someone told me my driver side running light is out in the rear. I replaced the bulb, nothing. the brake light lights up but when the headlights are on, no running lights, and reverse light works too, everything normal on passenger side. funny thing is when i hit the lock to lock the car, the running light bulb blinks, so i know it has power, just have this problem when headlights are on, i have checked all fuses. please help
HI Matt,
Your issue sounds like a fault, most likely in the rear lights. Current is feeding from the brake light circuit, into the running light circuit. The most common causes are a bulb filament broken and touching the running light circuit, and loss of ground.
observe the rear lights closely and you should get a clue as to which light is failing....but if not, just pick one....
I would run a temporary ground and test again, if no results, pull the brake light bulbs...
Transient current is often difficult to wrap your mind around, until you understand what can happen.

This type of problem can be caused by bad ground connections. Find as many as you can and clean the surfaces between the loop the screw goes through and the chassis (body). Take the tail light assemblies out and find the ground wires - black wires screwed to the body. Look under the hood, Pull the headlight assemblies out if necessary and find those little guys. They are generally close to the light. Follow the wire loom back from the lights and look for the black wires coming out. Loosen the screws and work the loop back and forth against the metal. Sometimes there is paint on the metal and the screw is the only thing making the connection. Work the screw in and out snug it against the loop and rotate the loop to freshen the connection.

sounds like either a relay problem or a short. the only thing i can recommend is getting an electrical diagram for you vehical and following it and seeing if you can find any cuts in the wires or a broken fuse. It should be fairly simple to figure out a broken wire from a wire thats fine. good luck!

the headlight switch is prolly bad. you have to take dash apart to replace.
