How to change the oil pump on a 2000Z-71 silverado

There is a cross member under the oil pan that has a bolt in each end. I need to know that nothing is going to torque itself out of place when I remove this brace.

SOURCE: Need torque specs for oil pan gasket

There likely is a spec for oil pan but unless you are a finatic, you really don't need to know what it is. Simple rule: Don't crank down ******* any fastener. If corners near crank ends have larger fasteners, you can tighten them a bit more than on siderails. Before tightening anything, install all bolts finger tight, to ensure that they are not cross threaded. To avoid warping pan, tighten from the center of the pan, working towards both ends, alternating from side to side as you go. When you are finished, go over it again, using the same amount of force on each bolt. As I said, end bolts can if larger in diameter, be tightened more but be careful not to tighten so much that you will either split or push the gasket out the sides.. Anywhere two gasket ends **** together, I recommend using a sensor -safe dab of silicone. An oil pan is not under any mechanical stress or pressure. I have used this method for many years and NEVER had one leak. If you really need #s, small fasteners get about 12-15in lbs, larger ones about 20.

SOURCE: Need torque specs for oil pan bolts

torque specs for these bolts can be found in a Haynes or Chilton manual availiable from your local parts store, or maybe at your local library, however these bolts are usually no more than 14 ft pounds, unlike cylinder head bolts, the bolts do not need to have any stretch factor to hold the oil pan gasket in place or sealed.

one online manual shows this. pan off

  1. Remove the side under cover (refer to Body, Bumpers).
  2. Drain the engine oil.
  3. Remove the front no.1 exhaust pipe.
  4. Remove the front no.2 exhaust pipe.

    • remove the engine oil pan
    • Remove the engine oil pan strainer.

    • Remove the baffle plate.
    end.
what most do no know is.
the pan must be dropped enough to clear the oil pump and pick up screen booth, so that is problematic. if you understand

here is 1 exception , me, and Jeep 4L, and same words above'
I bought the car dirt cheap near new (my bag) and bad pan. leaking like mad.
this is what I did, and tells you that tricks are not only for kids
  • I remove all engine mounts bolts, hood up.
  • I jack engine up far from my cross member and rear of head
  • almost smacks fire wall, grin.
  • I remove all pan bolts (pan drained first)
  • I smack it hard with rubber mallet bam' off and falling
  • and dang the pump etc will not allow pan to come off( expected)
  • I then have son with small hands 14yr old unbolt the pump
  • and it falls to bottom of pan (whoooo hooo)
  • and pan comes of with funny tilting. me.
  • done. (new one in hand) and tricky pump put back pan tinted.
mine the cross member can not be removed. (yours is easy)
if only exh blocked me , i'd have paid for cat back. or as needed)
or cut it off and weld it back ( or ask a SHOP TO) I have TIG here.
MOST CAT HEADERS JUST UNBOLT UNLESS IN THE SALT BELTS ,NORTH AMERICA, SALTED ROADS )
Some headers can be upgraded to SST bolts or or studs
making service easy for ever. stainless steel parts. (bolts)
there are only 4 ways (always your choice and rust sets the rules)
1: the book way above (gactory service manual)
2: jack it up. way. the engine jacked. if exh crosses pan this fails
3: pull engine.
4; cut and weld back. cats

How to remove oil pan in 2003 chevy silverado 2500 hd

You most certainly have to remove the motor mount bolts and jack up the engine to remove it. If exhaust passes under the pan you will need to remove it also.
Also unbolt the fan shroud as it has to move with the fan as you jack up the motor to clear the cross member.

On a 2002 isuzu trooper 3.5 V6 with auto and 4wheel drive do i need to remove engine to pull oil pan? i have a loud banging in motor and need to check crankshaft & bearings

Yes, you need to pull the engine to remove the oil pan. This requires that you remove the propeller shafts and the third cross member to slide the transmission toward the rear of the vehicle. I suggest you purchase a service manual before you start this process. More than likely the rod bearing for cylinder 1 has failed. This seems to be a common problem with later model 3.5L Trooper engines because the oil pump and oil gallery do not deliver oil as efficiently to the number 1 rod bearing.

Does my chevy silverado 2004 v8 2wd ls transmission have a filter and drain plug

No drain plug, the filter is inside trans. Remove trans oil pan (it will be full of tran fluid so loosen bolts on one end and work your way to other end) May have to take bolts out of a cross member and slid it back to get to all the pan bolts. The filter is flat and you'll see it once the pan is dropped. Pull straight down to remove. Clean out sludge and old fluid from pan and scrape old gasket off.
Push new filter into place. Its a good idea to use gasket sealer to help keep it from leaking and to help hold gasket in place so bolt holes stay lined up while bolting up pan. Tighten all bolts evenly. Then refill tran with the fluid your service manual list. Operate your truck in all gears (shifting back and forth) and recheck trans fluid level. Its not a hard job to change filter and fluid. If you can change your own motor oil and have a rachet and sockets then you couldnt have any problems. Just get your filter and trans fluid from your local auto parts store like Autozone or Advance Auto Parts.

Oil pump and busted head gasket

You should not have to pull the engine to do this project. However there is a cross member under the engine that will need to be removed first. Once this is done you need to un-bolt the motor mounts. Then you will need to lift the engine with a hoist. Now you can remove the oil pan and then the oil pump. Hope this information helps. Good luck.

Need to change oil pan gasket in a 1998 GMC Jimmy 2 wheel dr 4.3

On many vehicles the exhaust runs under the oil pan, on others there may have a cross member in the way, or brackets that will hinder oil pan removal. These parts need to be removed. The exhaust nuts/bolts will most likely be rusted. It is best to spray them with penetrating oil. You can use WD-40, PB Blaster, Deep Creep, or something similar. After you have sprayed all of the nuts/bolts, let the penetrating oil soak in for about 10 minutes. Now remove the exhaust pipe that runs under the oil pan. The catalytic converter may, or may not be in the piece that you have to remove. If you have to remove a cross member, simply unbolt it and set it to the side, it is best to mark which side is the front, as some will only go on one way. Other than that, you should not have to pull the engine at all.

Where is the oil pan located on me 1997 lincoln continental?

The simple answer is, bolted to the bottom of the engine. Ford and Lincoln vehicle generally have the cross member right under the engine, so the oil pan is obscured by it. Many oil pans on rear wheel drive Ford products have 2 oil sumps or wells, 1 near the front just behind the belt pulleys, and the other just behind the cross member, this one also has the oil drain plug for oil changes. Not sure why you are looking for the oil pan, so I hope this helps.
