How do I change the headlight bulb on my 2006 HHR

    I have the same problem. Aside from complaining about the difficulty in accessing the lamp, I can't even figure out how to get to the back of the lamp.

    Hello , I have the same problem . The manual states to take the three fasteners off of the front of the well well and remove cover to access the back . No way can't even get at them . Must be a gm deal to bring it to them to spend 125.00 like i did @ vw to replace a flasher .

Turn your wheels in on the side that you are replacing, remove the two locking pins at the bottom side of the wheel well liner, pull the liner back and reach in to turn the bulb socket.

You have to open the hood and look inside in that corner. There are 3 screws you need to unscrew and take out the cable and replace the bulb. Then replace the cable and the screws.

How do you change a headlight bulb on a hhr
The procedure is in the owners manual, but it is not easy. You need to turn the wheels in (to right for drivers side) and then shut car off. Then you will need to loosen the inside front wheel well, which is plastic, until you can bend it out of the way enough to reach inside to the bulb. The bulb twists out with a 1/4 turn to the left and then unplugs. Just a hint, make sure that the gasket comes out with the bulb and that you only use one when you reinstall the new bulb. If you need to replace the fog lights, that bulb is replaced the same way.

Removing part of the liner is the only way to get it done. GOTTA LOVE ENGINEERING!

Be glad it's not a new Malibu the whole front fascia has to be removed.

How to change a front turn signal bulb in a 2006 HHR
The procedure for changing the front bulbs is described in the owners manual but it is not easy. It is the same for the headlights, turn signals, and fog lights. First, turn the wheels in (to the left for the right side) and then turn off the vehicle. You will then loosen the screws on the inside plastic wheel well until you can bend it out of the way. You can then reach inside, and the bulbs all come out with a 1/4 twist to the left. Make sure you remove the old gasket ring, and install the new bulb with only one gasket. Screw the wheel well back into position and you are done.

Access to change the headlamp bulbs is through the wheel well. The recommended method is to remove the front tire and then the plastic inner fender liner. Once removed, you'll have easy (more or less) access to the rear of the headlamp housing.
