My 96 corolla would not shift from park I used manual override to get home. When I got home I realized the brake lights and tail lights were not working. I checked fuse panel the stop fuse and tail light fuses were both blown out. I changed fuses and the stop fuse blew out when stepping on brake, the tail light fuse blew as soon as I turned on lights. Next step was the stop light switch located under the front dash hooked to the brake. Changed this switch put new fuses and they blew out again. What else should I check or change? Please I need help!!!!!!!
Thank you,
Jeff
I just fixed my daughters car with the same problems. I found some ***** had ininstalled the tail/brake light bulb incorrectly, (that had to be hard) and the two contacts over time had started to make contact blowing the tail and stop light fuses.
I would look for a wiring short in the trunk at the taillamp area, or, inspect the sockets for the taillamp bulbs for corrosion. In any case, you have a short circuit in the trunk area, also check the wire that comes from the body & goes up the trunk hinge on the driver side; that wire may be chafed, and it may be shorting out. Hope this helps; please get back to me if you need any further assistance.

I have the same problem I have already investigated for a short and we keep going through fuses. What could this be. We are about to move to the east Coast and I hate to not have this fixed before hand.

When I turn on the lights, a 20amp fuse that illuminates the dash lights and parking lights blows out
After changing front turn to led switchback blew a fuse and fixed that changed back to old bulb but no drls .turn signal work
I checked the fuse and it is a 10 as the manual says it should be but the dash light will not turn on or engage when I hit the switch to use it?
anti lock brake fuse needs to be replaced. need to know the location of the fuses
my wife had a belt that needed to be changed,(alt belt). And also she was having the battery light that had just came on the dash. changed belt and the light won't go off ? had alt and battery checked , both good. Its not charging and I don't know why
Car still driveable. I was told to replace the main fuse with the clear long cover located under the bonnet. Is there a video demonstrating how to replace this fuse.
