SOURCE: need radio 'code' for 2000 montero sport with factory cd player

Hi Myzoom,

My name is Mike. I've been with the site for just short of two years. I volunteer to moderate postings for abuse, spam, that sort of thing. When I see a one thumb rating (the worst) it gets my attention, so I check them out.

There is a hypothetical situation I would like you to consider:

Two days ago at 3:00am, a crackhead broke into your car and stole the radio along with some paperwork he found in the glove box.

The next day he plugs it in and gets the 'code' message.

'I know', he thinks, 'I'll get the code from FixYa'! I've got the VIN from the papers I grabbed. Suckers...

He gets online and posts this:

"replaced dead battery in 2000 montero sport ltd. radio2_bing.gif now says 'code' and isn't usable at all. need the 'code' for my unit. it is the factory model of infiniti cd player2_bing.gif. my vin is: JA4MT41RXYP051225"

What do you do?

Now you may consider Kelly's response to your problem as not helpful or you just down rated him because it wasn't the answer you wanted to hear. The rating you gave by the way, is usually reserved for cases of abuse. It is an insult.

For reasons you have superbly demonstrated, not to many experts here provide answers that may cause the Asker to 'Shoot the messenger'.

Kelly provided the correct answer.

It was quoted verbatim from your vehicle manufacturers web site.

And without bothering to even comment, you down rate a person who 'volunteers' there time to help people.

The only abuse here is being shouldered by the person who tried to help you. Hopefully this was a mistake on your part. If so, it can be remedied.

Whether you choose to do so or not, the solution to your problem remains unchanged:

If we were ethically challenged and willing to provide ways to bypass anti-theft devices for the price of a good rating, there-by giving more value to any stolen goods, how long would it be before you really did wake up to the sound of breaking glass at 3:00am?

There is a reason the code feature is there.
There is a reason we don't provide ways around them.
There is a reason you need to contact the manufacturer.

For what it's worth.

Mike

Lost key need to replace Ignition switch for 1998 Mitsubishi Montero sport

Disconnect the battery: Before beginning any work on the electrical system of your vehicle, disconnect the battery to prevent accidental shocks or short circuits.
Remove the steering column cover: The ignition switch is located on the steering column, so you'll need to remove the cover to access it. Depending on the exact model and trim level of your Montero Sport, the cover may be held in place with screws or clips.
Remove the ignition switch: Once you have access to the ignition switch, you'll need to remove it from the steering column. This may involve removing any retaining screws or clips that are holding it in place, as well as disconnecting any electrical connectors.
Install the new ignition switch: Install the new ignition switch in the reverse order of the previous steps, making sure that it is securely fastened to the steering column and that all electrical connections are properly connected.
Test the new ignition switch: Once the new ignition switch is installed, reconnect the battery and test the switch to make sure that it is working properly. Insert the new key and try to start the engine. If the engine starts and the key can be turned smoothly, you've successfully replaced the ignition switch.
It's worth noting that depending on the specific make and model of your Montero Sport, the exact steps for replacing the ignition switch may vary slightly

2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport. Two different Locksmiths failed to program transponder key for it.

Question edited for clarity.

Try an auto electrician. They have better scan tool computers and there may be an underlying issue with ECM, BCM or the Security Module.

How to enter radio code for mitsubishi montero sport

Use the first 4 station preset keys on the front of the radio. Push the first key as many times as the number you want. For instance, if the first number of the code is "4", push the fist key 4 times. Same for the remaining three keys.

Key stuck in the ignition

Well the radio code is an anti-theft issue. you have to take it to the dealership and they get your VIN number and they will retrieve the serial number to your radio. With that they can look up your code. It will cost at least $75 dollars.

Make sure they connect it back up correctly because then if you live in climates that reach under 20 degrees your radio will shut off. or when hit a bump in the winter your radio will shut off and you have to enter the code everytime it goes off.

I have an '01 montero sport XLS. Battery died and I had to experience this the hard way.
