An automobile's ignition system may work fine while idling but fail during acceleration. Problem areas to be inspected include the spark plugs, spark plug wires and vacuum hoses. Car owners should look for spark plugs that are covered in oil or sediment or damaged, spark plug wires that have damaged insulation, and vacuum hoses that are unplugged or leaking. Fuel Problems

  • The use of a fuel additive that contains both fuel injector cleaner and water remover can fix minor problems due to water in the gas and fuel injector clogs. A fuel pressure gauge can also be used to test the injection system to assure proper pressure.
While most acceleration problems are likely caused by problems with the plugs, wires or fuel, a variety of sensors and other components can cause similar problems. a bad tps ( throttle position sensor ) will cause causes transmission shift issues, bucking, jerking, idle surging, engine cutoff, hesitation on takeoff, and surging while going down highway.
good-day ! check and or clean maf sensor if need be. you can by the maf sensor cleaner at most auto parts stores.

SOURCE: my car is jerking while accelerating and reaching certain RPM

I would look for a fault in the ignition system such as a cracked spark plug. Might need a scope check to put your finger on the problem

SOURCE: Check engine light intermittently flashing, car jerking.

If you have one of the chain auto parts stores near you, check with them by phone first but most of them offer a free scan of your computer which probably has diagnostic codes stored related to your problem.

WHAT IS CAUSING JERKING AT SPEEDS 40 TO 90 FEELS LIKE IT WANTS TO SHIFT IN AND OUT OF DRIVE TO 2ND AND THE GAUGES GO ERRATIC THIS STARTED HAPPENING AFTER RUNNING OUT OF GAS CNEEDED TO BE JUMP STARTED

Without knowing what type of vehicle you are dealing with I can only make some assumptions. Most likely you have an electronically controlled transmission. I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the alternator. You can have it tested at Autozone, but it may still be in normal range and show as okay. So my best guess would be that eventually you will be replacing the alternator when it finally goes out. Unfortunately, you have to wait till it goes out, which leaves you stranded somewhere or replace it and hope that solves the problem. The main reason I point to the alternator is because you jumped the car just before this started. There are many other possibilities with the amount of electronics in today's cars but that is where I would start.

03 chevy blazer what's the cause of the rpm and temp gauges to jump while driving. And it jerks

Hello Merv,
I would look for any bad grounds especially in the engine compartment. You should be looking for corroded or loose ground wires that attach to the frame, engine block, or negative side of the battery. It most likely is not broken due to the jumping action of the gauges. The vehicle is jerking to the computer is getting faulty signals and temporarily doesn't know what to do when the signal goes missing! Unfortunately this problem will take a bit of time to find and fix due to it being intermittent in nature (always a pain though).
Good Luck!

1999 saab 9-5 while driving it is jerking, at times it does not start without a jump

If the battery cable are not corroded, replace the battery. The battery is a very important component of an electrical system. Any check engine lights? 99 models often have a hole burned into the turbo hose on the right side of the car.

Wont stop jerking

Check all lines fittings intake parting line at engine etc for vacuum leaks that can cause your problem. You can spray carb cleaner on suspect components and see if idle changes (not sensors) Listen carefully for any hissing noise while running.
