the cluster dies for 4 reasons (tech)
fuses blown (hood up fuse box called TIPM

Car main battery dead.
all you can do lacking tools is check fuses for BLOWN?!
1
Press the "Unlock" key on your key fob to deactivate the alarm and unlock the car doors. If you've lost your key fob, unlocking the driver's side door with the key automatically deactivates the PT Cruiser's alarm.
2
Look for the black alarm box underneath the dashboard, on the driver's side of the car. Locate the override button on the box -- either a black or red button, depending on the year of the PT Cruiser -- but don't press it yet.
3
Put the key in the ignition and turn the key so that the battery is on, but the engine doesn't start. Quickly push and hold in the override button until you hear the alarm sound once, indicating the alarm is disabled.
many are connected to the drivers door lock.... doing this twice......... turn KEY to the left / pause . turn it to the right/ pause.. 2 times ... should reset it .
have a load test done on the battery as it may be dead flat or have a failed cell. Check the alternator output and check the condition and tension of the drive belt
When you turn the key and it doesn't start, what happens? Do any of the dash warning lights come on? Does the engine turn over but not start?
1. If the dash lights DO come on every time, but the engine doesn't turn over every time, it's probably not a problem with the switch. Might be a bad starter relay.
2. If the dash lights DON'T come on every time, then it could be the switch (electrical contacts only working sometime). First, try spraying WD-40 or electrical contact cleaner into the lock area to see if that helps. If it doesn't, then you probably need a switch. Do a search for "ignition switch 2004 PT Cruiser" and you'll probably find what you need, including instructions. Be sure to disconnect battery before replacing the switch and follow precautions against activating airbag accidentally.
Check the battery terminals for corossion. Look for the chalky white powder which is a tell tale sign. Simply move the cable connectors back and forth a few times to loosen corossion and provide a better contact. Have you checked your fuses. I probably spelled corossion wrong, sorry.
try to get a jump from a friend and see what happens, does the same, faulty starter, may need replacing, try to use small hammer and tap lightly on the starter couple time and have a friend start the car while you tap lightly on it. check ignition switch where you stick the key in. stick the key in the ignition and turn the key back and forth jiggle and wiggle it and see if your igniting will make contact. do it several time to test and see if its the ignition problems, this part is not cheap to replace.
my 2006 pt cruiser won"t start. the light do come on but it will not turn over just a clicking sound. i drove it for about an hour then went back to it 30 mins later and it didn"t start. just clicking sound.
