I purchased my 2004 Acura TL 2 years ago with 32,000 miles. The car now has 48,000 miles on it and when I hit a bump on the road, the front passenger side takes the bump really hard - it doesn't sound right. Took the car to my repair person and he said that I need front struts. I was just wondering if this was common / normal occurance because I don't consider myself a hard driver, however, the person who owned the car before may have been.
You may not need the entire strut, just the part that serves as a shock absorber. The term strut refers to a complete assemby with coil spring and a central shock absorber.
When their seals fail completely, whether gas or fluid filled,they are just a piston in a cylinder with nothing to damp their travel so they can slam at both ends.
American made 'shocks' were once only really effective for ~20k miles but both foreign and domestic have improved a great deal but one of yours may have left the factory less than perfect.
Shop the parts before you let the car go to anyone to see if they are scalping you or only marking their cost up a little.

I also have a 2004 Acura TL. It has 109,000 miles. It's my wife's car so I don't drive it very often but am always baffled by how rough the ride is. It's on its 3rd set of tires. The 2nd set I put on, (Coopers), had the car sounding like you were driving a Mack truck after only about 8,000 miles.
I just drove it on a 500-mile trip from Oklahoma to Louisiana and am convinced I need to take it in to a repairman to have the total suspension system looked over. It's really a shame because it's a fine looking car and gets great gas mileage, (30+ mpg).
Anyone else having similar problems...
I recently bought a 2004 Acura TL (w/Nav) from a private owner. I notice a hard thumping noise every time i go over a slightly rough surface on the front passenger end only. Not sure what it is. Also on the highway, driving between 50MPH and 60MPH, the car vibrates a little bit. The alignment seems to be perfect, does nt pull on any side. Can anyone please tell me what it could be or any suggestions on testing it through DIY guide? Thanks in advance
