Idling Vibration-Intermittent Hey guys I'm a 20 year old who JUST bought his first car. Its a beautiful 2003 Volvo S60 2.4T. I absolutely adore it. But i'm also paranoid about cars, and rightly so this being my first car. Case in point: when i'm idling for maybe 2 minutes at a light with air circulating and A/C off the car will vibrate a little different than normal for like 0.5 sec then stop. Its nothing major, doesn't effect RPM (the idle is always stable). Is the vibration cause for concern? Sincerely, Matt- New to Volvo Owner
I have the same problem at idle...it started after the 105K timing belt service. No service lights signaling a misfire or other engine malfunction. Engine mounts are OK. Service guys are stymied! faulty injectors or faulty injector control
loss of power is fuel problems ( pump or injectors )
loss of turbo boost is lack of extra fire from the combustion --back to injector or control and bad idling is injectors squirting/ not squirting and not atomizing properly
Absolutely heard of and seen out of balance torque converters do exactly as you are describing. Since you just had it replaced before you picked up on the vibration that is the first place I would look.
Let us know how it goes with the transmission shop?
sounds like the temp sender could be misreading or the thermostat might not be opening fully, so i'd get that checked , th a/c may need regassing , keep me posted if you wish
Do you have a service light on or check engine. If the car shakes when it is not moving it is not the brakes.I would guess an engine misfire or poor engine preformance if it does it while idling. An 11 year old Volvo is probaly ready for some new plug wires and spark plugs if it has not already been done.Good Luck!
I had a similar problem w
recently bought 2003 S80.Several points: 1) Access your locking selonoid
through the trunk interior panel ... loosen a few hex bolts and slide
out for maintenance; 2) I fixed my lock by simply using light
teflon-based oil (like for bike chains). I exercised it a few times and
it works beautifully; 3) Not sure on your model, but gas door on the '03
unlocks when you push the associated release button under the headlight
control switch. It is not designed to unlock w the key (again, check
owners manual for your year). Hope this helps.
master_pre08-04-2007, 09:35 AMYeah,
the fuel door on my 2000 S80 is connected with the door locks. In order
for it to open you have to unlock all the doors to the car.

Thanks
Guys,
I removed the locking mechanism and applied a little silicon graphite
and now it works like a charm.
The idle air control valve is what regulates incoming air when the engine is idling. In some cases these can malfunction and cause intermittent issues with stalling at idel until the IAC dies altogether.
it would not be the ignition coil....injector cleaner could help it, most people add it to the gas to help maintain clean injectors and you should do the same. as far as the coil no leave it alone.
I first bought a 1990 volvo turbo 760. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS VEHICLE! it was rear wheel drive and VERY easy to work on. it was a BLAST to drive and blow 5.0 mustangs off the road with a 4 cyllinder. I loved driving that car so much I bought a 1998 S70 Volvo (kept the 760 model). turns out I paid ALOT MORE for just another toyota camary with a Volvo nameplate. I didnt keep it long. it just wasnt the same. the interior started falling apart from day one.
I know the dissapointment... if it were me I would not spend any money on the alarm system. but if I did I would get the aftermarket version installed.
PLEASE dont let the timing belt break on this car!!!!! it wont be the same as your old one! it will be $4000 damage to the engine if it breaks. change it out early!
I have the same problem at idle...it started after the 105K timing belt service. No service lights signaling a misfire or other engine malfunction. Engine mounts are OK. Service guys are stymied!
