I have a 2002 mazda B3000 with a 3.0 liter motor. The truck has 193,000 plus miles.
Running down the road the truck runs fine. But sometimes when stopping at red light the idle goes down below 800 rpms and the truck kills. I've added injection flush, changed plugs, plug wires look new. I'm changing the oil. Cleaned the iac valve. It look in good shape.
There's no check engine light.

The pump can be running but not pumping any fuel.
When it stops running you will need to figure out if you are loosing spark to the plugs or fuel to the injectors.
Might just be a bad blower motor. It takes it a while to spin fully after its on due to bad bushings in the motor. Take it out and see if it spins freely or not. Of not, replace it and all will be fine.
you mentioned new alternator and battery, but it seem that the alternator is not charging, when you install the new battery the car started and run and after hours of running specially if head light is on the car shuts down. this is an indication that the alternator is not charging. (factory defect) have it checked or return part to auto supply.
if alternator is good and you have the car jumped and run it will not shut down even if your battery is dead because the charge of the alternator is enough to power the electrical system of the car until you turn it off. this applies to all cars
When the "ac flapper" closes and opens where you let off the gas that may be due to a vacuum leak. Vacuum is up when the throttle is not open. Vacuum should control the blend air doors. The ac probably switches to the defrost vents when on the throttle.
This vacuum leak may also be the cause of your running condition. Eliminate the one thing and see if it fixes the other.
Hello handy randy. The 3.0 liter engine in your Mazda is classed as an interference engine. Some are more tolerant than others to bending valves. If it happened on the road it is quite possible damage was done unfortunately. If you have access to a bore scope it is a quick way to have a look to see if damage was done. Hope you fare out OK.
They are pretty reliable. Transmissions sometimes have problems and battery changing, etc isnt easy. I have had 2 concordes and 2 intrepids, as well as a van from chrysler and for the most part they are fine except the transmissions. have had to change the transmission in 2 of the cars and the van (which takes a different one). Engines are good if taken care of. Rick
If your check engine light is on have it checked it will probobly say output speed sensor circuit malfunctin. If this is the case it can be taken to the dealer for replacement the sensor cost about $80 plus an hour labor $40-50.
