Check the gap on the spark plugs first it sounds like the plugs are worn and the air gap is to big and when the engine gets hot the electrodeS ar e flexing out ca using no spark to ignite the fuel

SOURCE: jeep stalls

before you go out and buy new parts,
check for oil and coolant leaks as well
as your oil and coolant levels
if you have higher miles on it,
you will go through both oil and coolant
like there is no tomorrow

that was the problem with mine;
cost me about $20 when the shop
was going to charge me over $1k
for a new radiator/coolant system

It sounds like there is a problem with the Injector driver module. I have seen this problem a number of times.

SOURCE: 89 Chevy Corsica keeps stalling while driving

. Have it checked for a trouble code. It seems like a sensor problem. ( Idle position , crankshaft position, camshaft position sensors could be bad. Also the EGR valve could be bad. with a caode you can narrow it down a bit.

SOURCE: 1991 firebird will not idle cold and bogs down while driving

This sounds like a fuel issue to me. If I am not mistaken, this engine has two injectors running on a separate fuses. Remove the air cleaner assembly, and make sure both are firing while engine is running. If so, then check the fuel pressure. If you have a fuel pressure gauge, connect it to the fuel rail, and start it up. Remove the vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator to see where it is set. You should have at least 36lbs of fuel pressure. If the pressure is too low, check the fuel filter. It may be clogged, or you might have a weak fuel pump.

Also you changed the throttle position sensor, you will need to make sure it is set properly.

hope this helps,
Chris

In cold weather, my car is slow to start and has stalled a few times. What should I check?

You don't say what make of car but it's about the same for all. Your problem is the choke adjustment. The choke raises the idle when the car is cold and after warm up drops to normal. You are doing the chokes job when you hold the pedal down, once its warmed up the choke no longer functions till cold again. So check the choke and the high idle speed adjustment. Simple fix. Hope this helps mike

94 Lincoln TC engine stalls when slowing/stopping

Most common cause of stalling for Lincolns in that era is the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). It regulates fuel mixture, idle speed etc. A bad TPS will usually act up in one of two ways:
  1. When cold, car continually stalls
  2. When warm, car stalls when slowing down (especially if AC is on)
As far as valve cover oil leak, it's a problem that should be addressed to keep oil from fouling your spark plugs but highly unlikely to be the cause of your stalling problem. Hope this answers your question. All the best.

Idle irratic

Here are some of the causes of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

4 cyl Engine starts and idles ok...give it throttle and it dies

I need to get a clear mental picture of what exactly is happening.

With this said, you stated that the car "runs fine" until warmed up.

Q: When you start the car when cold it idles fine?
Q: If you allow the car to idle until "fully" warmed does the car stall?
Q: As the car begins to warm up, Does the RPM fluctuate abnormally?
Q: Does the car Only stall when you press on the gas pedal or does it stall just sitting and idling in addition to pressing the gas pedal?
Q: If you can drive it while cold does the car stall during acceleration when warm or only at Stop Signs / Lights?
Q: If you wait 20min or so, can you start the car again?
Q: How many miles are on the car?

Not reving high on cold start

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

Stalls when engne warms up

Your ECT (Engine Coolant Temp) sensor is bad. What's happening is at cold start it richens up the fuel mixture and as it warms up the ECM thinks it's still cold and essentially the "choke" is still on. Also check your coolant level. If you don't have enough coolant in you engine/radiator, the ECT doesn't know what to do so it thinks it's cold.
