1999-2003 Ford Windstar radio removal procedure

I want to remove the radio. I have the pull out tools, but when I try to pull them, the radio won't come out. Do I have to remove the dash trim around it? If so, do they just snap out if I pry it?

how do tou remove the front panel from the dash?

I also am having trouble removing my radio. Have used the Ford Radio Removal Tool but to no avail. I suspect the clips holding the radio tight have become bent/warped/damaged in some way, preventing the removal tool from working properly. If there is ANY other ways of getting the radio out (without damage if possible), I'm all ears.

I just removed my radio today from my 2003 windstar. i bought the "radio removal tool" from ford (8 bucks) but could have used a wire coat hanger. The trick is to insert the tool/hanger into the holes and push them to the outside like your spreading them. the radio comes loose , no tugging or prying.

2003 ford windstar has 4 screws holding the trim/bezel on. 2 above the radio which needs to be removed before you can see them. and 2 behind the cup holder.

Radio out

to remove a radio on a 2000 ford windstar, you will need radio removal tools which can be purchased from a local parts store, they are shape like a U and insert in either side of the radio, where there are small holes in the front side and are an 1 1/2" apart, they will go in and click, once in spread both apart and pull radio out

Good luck

Remove the radio in a ford windstar 2000

There is a ford radio removal tool. It looks like a pair of horse shoes most times. Or you can insert four 8 common D finish nails in the four holes (or 4 six D finish nails) -one in each hole until you feel it click. Be gentile. simultaneously push each side towards their respective front door and gently pull the radio out.

A/C works but no hot air in defroster or front vents. Rear heat works 2001 ford windstar

If rear heat works then it is not a thermostat problem.
A frequent Ford problem is the damper motor which is located behind the radio. The motor has a plastic gear inside and it wears.

If you plan to replace it by yourself it could take one hour. It suggested to by the special tool to remove the radio, at the dealer for $10.

Once the radio removed you should see a plastic unit about 3 X 4 inches. This is the actuator/motor. Unscrew the two or three bolts (8mm?) then you will have it in your hand. Inspect the plastic gear. If I'm right the gear will be bad. If it is, buy the replacement part at your dealer for about $70 and install it following reversed procedure. If I'm wrong you will have lost $10 for the radio special tool and maybe 30 minutes of your time.
Let us know about the result.
Hope it will help

Want to remove stero console

There are U shaped removal tools to do this that are generally less then $10 and In my opinion worth it. they fit in the four holes that are visable on the front out edges of the radio. Once these tools are inserted you need to apply outward (to left and right) pressure on the tools while pulling the radio out of the dash. You may need to push the radio in slighty first to reduce the pressure on the clips that hold the radio in so that the tools can do their job.

Should be about 5bux or less from your local Wally World.

Very simple-
Put the tool in- 1-per side.
Push outward while pulling back.

  1. Insert the Radio Removing Tool T87P-19061-A into the face plate holes until the tension of the tool locking into place can be felt. (There are tension clips that this tool pushes out of the way so the radio can pull out. Maybe you can insert 4 pins that will do the same thing.)
  1. Flex outward on both sides of the radio chassis (18806) simultaneously and pull the radio chassis from the instrument panel (04320) using the tool as handles.
